Indiana is not on our blocked list, so it does sound like there is a bug in Friendly Faces as another person seems to possibly not having it work in an are that is not blocked. Please report it as a bug.
But I would think if you take the time to actively not allow it, you would list the areas and the statutes that you are confirming to.
Iām not in NYC, Iām 4 counties away from there. But, Iām leaning more that itās a bug, because I should have seen the usual message to have to agree to that mentioned Illinois and never saw it at all. It does act more like a bug. I put a ticket in for it last night.

I have an issue, which may have been there in the past but I am noticing it with Beta 3 as well. I have an automation which will turn on Motion Sensor Notifications at night and off in the morning. Every time it runs the history will show that it has failed. However, the actual sensors do turn on or off notification when it is supposed. So I believe that the History is not reporting accurately for Motion Sensors or grouped motion sensors.
I do recall a similar issue with HMS, which you all dod fix.
Here is a log I submitted for it as well as an Image of the issue:
Log Number: 1465183
Insta-crashed on my phone.
Can you provide any additional information?
Are you implying you cannot get the App to load at all, or is it crashing when you try to do something?
Also, are you using an iOS device or Android?
Thanks for the report! Forwarding this to our engineering team and they will take a closer look at this!
Appreciate that. It happens all the time, so if you need any additional logs or info, feel free to ask.
Are you still running an iOS 13.5 phone?
No, up to 14.8! insta-crashes upon opening.
Is it possible that you have to trust it?
Nope. We have identified the issue, and the fix will be released soon!
I finally found the list from Wyze Support that details the legal restrictions.
Wyze cannot provide Face Recognition services in some areas, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, New York City, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington State, and the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec. By tapping āAgree and continueā in the app, you state and agree that you will not use this feature in those jurisdictions.
I live in Dutchess County, NY, 70+ miles and several counties away from NYC. Clearly one of two things is going on. Either, Wyze doesnāt know how to determine location ( by zip code would be easy since you already have that in our accounts), or Friendly Faces is truly broken for all users, not just Beta. I have already submitted a ticket for this and I
know I wonāt receive a direct response to the ticket, but I strongly suspect this may be a bug for all users. I have the current production version installed on my tablet, and Friendly Faces is not working there either. Rather than continually harp on this one issue, it would be nice if we could get some feedback from the Wyze Team on this.
I logged out and back in to the app. I saw the full legal which still only mentions Illinois as it has previously. Based on this, I am certain there is something wrong with Friendly Faces.
The new text search in events has also stopped working, two days ago. I was delighted the first couple of times I used it, because it worked so well. Now it fails to find any results no matter what I search. When it was working I even used the search term āAmazonā, and received results including both the Amazon driver as well as the Amazon truck. This tool showed a lot of promise and I sure hope it is fixed soon.
Interesting as headquarters is in WA state and mine is still available as a resident here
I wonder when this changed in WA state because the last time I allowed within the last few months with appā¦it didnāt mention WA state. I guess need to research the RCW.
Need to dig through this
Dang, I guess there goes my plan to set my address to the Wyze corporate HQ
All of Washington state is on the Friendly Faces blacklist. Iāll have to pick a different state now. Maybe even a different country. ![]()
Just to check, find your public IP address, and see if it shows it is in NYCā¦
Good idea, I would not think of that. No, itās Hopewell Junction, which is Dutchess County, same as I am.
I think I saw another post about this somewhere else in the Forum, but not sure where, so apologies if this is redundant, but here goesā¦
It appears that, although my Automations ARE working properly and executing as scheduled, the Automation History shows any Automation that involves turning camera notifications on or off as āFailed.ā Iām using Android 14 with the Beta 3.0 app. The issue affects my V3 cams and my Wyze Cam Outdoor V1 cams, but not my OG cams.
I submitted a log: 1469304
No idea if iOS devices are similarly affected.
