It is. The data path from the image sensor to the SD card is all within the camera.
If you are having connection problems with the connection taking a long time, check the post I made a few weeks ago.
I don’t know what the real cause of this problem was & cannot reproduce it again.
I was only able to recognise the problem because my router has a live traffic monitor where I could see the Wyze cameras were steaming to AWS even when they were “off” in the app/settings.
Power cycling the cameras didn’t fix the problem so I assume it was cause by a cloud problem.
After setting the monitoring to “Disarm” where I have no notifications at all, the issue resolved itself & now the home and away features work as expected.
Truly, I believe this is the way the Favorites tab is intended. If Wyze would put the static thumbnail back on each camera in the Device tab and allow for dynamic sorting in that list, I think most folks would be pretty happy.
As it is, I RARELY ever look at the Devices tab, now that I have my Favorites set up. This works well for me because I only have 10 cameras, total (7 in a group and three outdoor camers, not grouped).
Since I updated to the newer v3.0.5 app, I retested and posted about that in the unofficial topic for that version. I now think the Devices tab disarray that I experienced after emptying a Group was a one-time glitch, because I’ve been unable to reproduce it. The other issue with non-empty Groups still having an “Empty” label still exists, but at least it eventually resolves and may not actually be classifiable as a “bug”.
I’ve updated my Wyze Ticket accordingly.
Yeah, the 3.0.5 app wasn’t intended to change much. There are bigger updates coming and this wasn’t intended to be the significant fixes we’re waiting on. It was mostly updating the event filters and a few minor bug fixes. The beta has more stuff coming, but I am sure we will have a lot more coming with the normal monthly release for the rest of the year.
Wyze usually does at least 1 major public app release per month. It typically goes like this:
- Beta app
- Possibly a second beta test if necessary
- Release Candidate (if necessary)…sometime it’s not needed though
- Public Release
- Possible untested Hotfix or small update if it is needed for anything that wasn’t widely caught by beta testers but is fairly critical enough to not wait a month for the next public release.
This seems to basically be one of those small update / hot-fix releases that wasn’t intended to do any major change noticed by most people.
I didn’t have high expectations for change in v3.0.5, especially since it wasn’t even accompanied by a release announcement topic here, but I thought the lack of announcement was a little unusual given what the observed practice (from an outsider’s perspective) seems to be. Even hotfix releases have frequently been announced in Wyze News.
For me and maybe many, stop have all the cams streaming when opening the app to Favorites. Just today, I opened the app, activated a camera in the Favorites and then the App closed. WTH.
Mines running much better. Live stream not clogging up time to turn on and off cameras. Much improved.
Ditto!
That’s good to hear! Based on the release notes, I did not expect that to have been a focus yet. I’m hoping they’ll make even more improvements before next month’s official monthly public release, but I’m glad to hear from a couple of you that this update helped improve your connectivity.
I’ve noticed the live screen only turns on if you scroll and stop on a camera. I think this is new.
Well stated.
Are there any release notes from the cloud SW side?
My issues with connectivity when changing to the V3 app were not caused by the app but instead the cameras were all streaming to the cloud even though in the app the cameras was set to detect no motion & they were “turned off”.
I’m sure this was a cloud related bug with the monitoring feature.
Rebooting/power cycling the camera make no difference even with my phone disconnected (app not open).
this is the issue with Wyze they release a new updated app and fail miserably to explain to the customer that it may require for you to power down your devices for everything to grab and take ips again , they fail to add these sensitive details upon release of their products their whole attitude towards it is what alarms me , " ah we can release they update they will figure it out attitude " is just bad .
I have 4 cams in a group. What I have “just” noticed that the “off” icon is for the whole group. If I only want to turn off one cam within the group, how is that done? So the “off” icon will turn off the whole group. When you open that group, you have to manually turn on 3 cams to leave the one cam off. SO DUMB!
Not sure how this is different from 2.x.
Turning off one camera in one click is something I don’t see in app 3.X. But you can do something similar with a rule/automation, except now you need one button to turn on and another to turn off.
Maybe in the future app release they can add a toggle action.
How is that different than any other tech company? Whenever you do any upgrade you need to reboot, you don’t need to be told. It’s common sense.
It used to be you open the group, then the “off” icon was in each cam view.
