I expect others have already done this and talked about it here.
I have set up 3 Alexa routines that show any of my Wyze or Nest cams on my upstairs TV, downstairs TV and my iPhone when someone walks by my car towards the front door. And they work!!. It took awhile due to a Wyze cam skill glitch.
The den tv pops the frontyard cam on the whole TV. And then waits for an hour before doing it again so if it is the gardener it is not continuous, and it is just during the day. This just works. No extra gear.
The upstairs TV does a PIP Picture in Picture and puts the front door cam in the popup in bottom right corner. It has a 15 minute delay as I do not want to miss any back to back visitors. This times out after 10pm seconds and goes back to full screen TV. I have a 4 HDMI port multiplexer for this one to get PIP.
My iPhone also shows a frontyard cam that shows whole frontyard from up higher. This just pops up on my iPhone .. I have it currently running throughout the night in case someone tries for our vehicles.
I can also call on similar routines to popup the frontdoor. Or whole front yard on upstairs Tv with command.
I currently have an Alexa buzzer ring before each of these routines kick in to warn us something is happening.
Several of us discussed and tested having Google and Alexa automatically stream based on various workarounds in the distant past.
I am interested to hear how you got it to work and when.
IIRC we could give Alexa a custom instruction to “Stream [camera name] on [alexa display device name]” and using that as the action would work. Then you just have to have a reliable trigger like a person detection or something.
I tried to do this recently on one of my Alexa Show 5’s with my Duo Cam Doorbell and couldn’t get it to work though. And my V3Pros person detection triggers are definitely not working anymore in Alexa due to a Wyze firmware bug with those models.
I can’t remember how we got Google to do it. I know back in like 2020 or 2021 we had to have 2 google devices in the same room and have one announce to the other to start a stream and then it would work. But Google made some improvements in recent years, but I haven’t tried anything since those improvements.
So I’d like to hear in more detail what you are doing. What are your triggers? What action or command do you give to Alexa and to Google to get them to auto-stream?
I’d like to have it automatically stream when someone enters my property in the front yard. Maybe stream my doorbell or floodlight cam, etc, but stream on mute. Then it will be like looking through a peephole as I approach the front door to see who is there before I even open the door. That would be useful. Or show the garage cam if my neighbors push that doorbell.
I would like a way to have the stream only run for like 1 minute and then automatically stop the stream though, so the image doesn’t burn into the screen from showing the same background too long.
