Why does it take forever to load a live view from my cameras?

They are slow loading or sometimes never load. I have a very fast network and a mesh router system so it’s not my network, it slow routing through Wyze servers and I pay yearly for the Plus plan.

If you’re on the same network as the cams, the video stream goes direct to your viewing device, but it does have to authenticate with Wyze servers first.

First, are you trying to view multiple cams at once (either in a cam group or on the favorites screen)? There is a known issue with trying to load more than 3 or 4 cam live streams at the same time. Even just having the “auto play” on your favorites enabled can cause trying to view individual cams to time out because of this bug, so I’d suggest turning that off in the app settings.

If you’re only trying to view a single cam, how long of a delay are we talking? A couple of models are suffering from about a 10 second delay, but during that time it shows you a still frame, not “loading” or “error” or anything like that. It just finally starts moving after about 10 seconds. My Camv4 and Panv3s are suffering from this, hoping a fix will come soon.

If you’re trying to load just a single cam and don’t have autoplay on favorites enabled, then it points to your network. “Fast network” and “mesh router system” really don’t mean anything. There are dozens of variables that can affect 2.4ghz wifi or even connectivity to Wyze’s servers.

With some more info may be able to narrow down where the problem is.

I am trying to load one camera at a time, but it takes as long as three or four minutes for it to load and it doesn’t matter whether I’m trying to load it from a multi view in the app or I’m trying to bring up a single device, it’s all the same. It takes too long to authenticate with Wyze servers that seems to be where the bottleneck is because once it loads I’m fine.

Have you disabled the auto play on favorites (so they don’t all try to load when you launch the app)? Want to eliminate that as a possible cause, as it can impact trying to view a single cam too.

If that is off, does your mesh system have any sort of “advanced security” or “malware protection” etc? Those have been known to interfere in some cases, so may be worth testing with it off.

The other thing to try is bringing a cam right in the same room as your main router and make sure it is connecting to that and not one of the nodes. That can help narrow things down also.

The loading being SLOW has been an issue forever

My fix is if it is loading slow I close and reopen the app, then on the restart it usually works.

If not close again and reopen, rarely does it take more than twice

A workaround that works in my situation

I do that, too, sometimes clearing cache(s) as part of that process.

This is how I tend to clear my Wyze app caches on Android (click/tap to expand):
  1. Clear the in-app cache: From the Wyze app’s home screen, navigate to  Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Cache File Size ➜ Clear.
  2. Swipe the Wyze app out of the running Android apps.
  3. Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (on the phone’s home screen or wherever you tap to initially open the app) and then tap  App info in the pop-up menu.
  4. Tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm) and then tap Storage & cache.
  5. Tap  Clear cache on the Storage screen.
  6. Back up one screen (back to App info) and then tap  Open to re-launch the Wyze app.

Note: I don’t know what the options would be for modifying these steps on iOS since I don’t use that platform. If using iOS/iPadOS, you should be able to clear the in-app cache with Step 1, and that may help.

Sometimes I stop at just clearing the in-app cache, and often that’s sufficient, but occasionally I’ll clear the OS-level app cache, too.
