What the HE double hockey sticks does "Solution" mean in a thread?

I keep seeing a “solution” box in checked in threads when nothing has been solved!

That means the original poster has decided someone solved the question and marked it as solved

But HOW does that work??
I’ve created numerous threads (like this one) and the solution checked box shows up and I don’t think it’s the solution,

Until the box is selected, only the original poster should see any mention of it. The OP sees this:

The box LOOKS checked to the OP, but it is actually grayed out. You as the original poster select who answered the question for you.

Is this what you are seeing?

For example here’s a thread he started. I assume Gem is seeing an option to mark each post as Solution. We are not. Personally I always found the Solution button too close to the other buttons.
