I watched it and really enjoyed it.
In the film, LZ bassist John Paul Jones makes an interesting point about âfitting inâ his part to lift ideas his creative mates were working. A âfollowing versus leadingâ role, I guess (Ginger Rogers.)
Said itâs what he liked doing.
Sometimes âleft out a noteâ to highlight what Bonham was beating.
Coupling the parts. Nice.
I agree, thatâs a beautiful piece, and the bass is subtle and âalive.â
I canât remember where I saw it, he once said that he was unappreciated by his band members especially by Page. In my opinion no other basist would have made better addition to LZ.
Old Page is a different animal than young and middle Page. What an affable sweetheart he seems now. Sincerely.
Agreed, especially in âIt Might Get Loudâ.
Sacrilege
Just like me, it happens when you get older, except for old Frogs.
I watched that videos also. I like a few of their songs but not many.
Skin thins and dries. Makes us irritable.
I liked his first go with Alison Krauss. Whatâs your fave, @StevenA?
Victor Wooten talks a lot about this, too. Heâs probably best known as the bassist for BĂ©la Fleck & the Flecktones. That dude is amazing, and he seems to play with pure joy at times. I like how he can so easily transition from using the bass as a solo or lead instrument to supporting what a musical partner is doing, and he seems equally happy doing both:
I probably need to listen to that whole album with headphones, because I really like the atmosphere there, the stuff thatâs going on behind the musicâbehind the trioâbut is maybe musical in its own way: clinking glasses, conversation. I like imagining what it mightâve been there to see and hear what was happening while that recording was being laid down.
I didnât say that I donât like them. I have some favorites. I just generally prefer some other bands.
Just yanking your chain, I prefer Deep Purple over Led Zeppelin.
Oh, I know. Itâs all good.
Right on. I think some bands my dad played in used to cover some of their stuff.
Everyone whoâs ever attempted to play a guitar knows the Smoke on the Water riff
