Watch 47 - where is the community for this thing?

I don’t care to be on forums or chat with a community…but it appears that this is the only way to get heard by…anyone.

This is a “cut and paste” of an email I attempted to send to Wyze:

I bought my Watch 47 when it came out in 2021. I use it every day. It was 20 bucks so, it hardly seems right for me to have any complaints about it now…but here it is.

  1. Functionality hasn’t changed in 5 years. No advancements. No refinements. Not even a new watch face. This had potential to be the new “Pebble”. People would’ve bought this like crazy had you just put out the API or had an app store for it or something!

  2. It disconnects from BT. Sometimes in a day. Sometimes with in a few hours. It doesn’t try to reconnect…you’re just disconnected now and have to manually reconnect. Inconvenient.

  3. No message response option. Just a canned response option would’ve been cool.

This watch is tough as nails and I have put it through the wringer. I’ve smashed it, drowned it and scratched it all to hell and back…it hasn’t skipped a beat. It shows me the time (unless in the sun…it’s unviewable), the battery last for days (even now!!) and it mostly lets me know when I have a notification. I bitch about it every day…but I keep putting it on. Why?? Because I know if I buy something that costs more and I do to it what I have done to this watch…I would feel bad. Also, I don’t think that a more expensive watch could take the beating that this thing has.

That said…

I need to buy a new one. I want this one for when I’m working and one for when I need to dress up. $50 is too much for a watch that does so little and has such little manufacture support. Again, if it had just a few refinements (nothing crazy) it could be an amazing $50 watch!!
I’m told that no one will get this message because Wyze could care less to view support emails. I hope this isn’t the case. I hope that someone possibly gives a [Mod Edit] to consider these few little refinements.

Thank you for listening to me rant.

I have one of these too. I basically stopped using it due to lack of API support, which is non-negotiable for me for a smart watch now.

Some people have had luck with reverse engineered SDK access. I’ve seen people do some cool things with it. If you’re skilled enough or have an agentic AI to help, you could look into that.

My understanding is there are no plans for any updates on a lot of non-camera products unless there is substantial security update required. Presumably (based on an AMA answer) this is because they want to leave them in mostly stable status. Every firmware update or feature change brings high risk of introducing new bugs and turning into a never ending cycle of new bugs and ongoing development needs for something that doesn’t bring in recurring income. They would start to lose money and end up having to make it officially end of life instead to prevent the financial bleeding (having to pay employees to continue spending time and resources on something not bringing in new money and for which they struggled to gain market share in).

Though you and I would argue it’s their fault they didn’t gain market share because they didn’t provide basic access to an API, or some other features that are pretty standard. So I would argue it’s mostly their fault for poor implementation on something that otherwise had a lot of potential.
