Video Share Icon

On my Android App v3.2.2 (586) I inadvertently hit the SHARE icon when trying to download a video clip (I should have used the Download option). Where did that clip go? I have one shared user, but I couldn’t find the clip on her phone either.

Possibly, retrace your steps by repeating the process of sharing again.

Pay particular attention, when prompted for a specific app to use in the sharing process.

Personally, I noticed that when sharing, using an email client, the file is finally sent when the mail client is opened after the share was made. The share just sat in the outbox since the client wasn’t running in the background.

In any case, you will have more information to post back here, hopefully.

Welcome to the Forum, @dwaldenturek!

Are you positive the clip went somewhere? In my experience, after tapping a “share” icon in an app (including the Wyze app), I’m prompted to select a destination (another app and/or recipient). I don’t see where you described anything like that.

As @ssummerlin indicated, more information about what you were trying to do, specifically where in the app you were trying to do it, and what you experienced might help others here to assist you with answers.

I did not get any further prompts. Which is fine if clip was not sent. I just didn’t want it going to somewhere unknown.

If I can tack one onto this thread: When I tried to share a specific video, I selected “Text Message”, and then “Always”. It turned out that the video was too big (28s) to be sent as a text. How do I remove the default to be a text, so I have options to send another one?

TIA

That would be in your phone preferences. I’m not familiar with Android, so hopefully someone else might chime in and help you out.

Welcome to the forum BTW!

Thank you for your reply, @habib. It appeared to be in the app, and I have been through every Settings option I could find.

Definitely an OS setting as mentioned in the other thread. In Android (depending on your version) it should be something like Settings → Apps → Messages (or whatever SMS program you use) → Open By Default → Clear default preferences

@dave27 Thank you for the idea, however that did not work, either.

I am quite certain it is in the Wyze app.

Well, as long as you’re certain.

Sharing media is managed on OS level, you should follow @dave27 ‘s advice. He’s using Android.

If you could share more details about what you’re using (Android version, SMS app, perhaps phone model), then that might help others in the community to assist with your specific platform; however, I believe @dave27’s advice is sound, because I was able to recreate the problem (at least as I understand it) and also remediate it this way:

  1. In the Wyze app, I navigated to the Events tab and found an event I wanted to share.
  2. On the event screen, I tapped the Share button.
  3. The drawer that slid up from the bottom offered Share with Messages (my default SMS app) as the first app suggestion, along with the Just once and Always choices. I tapped Always.
  4. Instead of selecting a recipient and trying to send the message, I hit the Android back button and swiped through several other events, hitting Share on each one. Every time, the Wyze app initiated a share to Messages without offering me a choice. I believe this is the experience @pawsitively described.
  5. On my phone’s home screen, I long-pressed the Messages icon and then tapped the icon in the pop-up menu to open App info.
  6. At the bottom of the App info screen, I tapped Advanced to expand that section.
  7. I swiped up to reveal Open by default and tapped that.
  8. On the Open by default screen, the OTHER DEFAULTS section informed me: “You’ve chosen to launch this app by default for some actions.” I hit the Clear defaults button.
  9. I navigated back to the Wyze app and attempted to Share another event, and this time I was presented with my original choices instead of having Share take me directly to Messages.

I did this with Wyze app v3.2.1.581 on a phone running Android 10. Your experience will likely be different depending on which Android version you’re using.

@Crease Thank you for this tutorial!

I was able to follow your step-by-step directions, and although some of my menu items appeared a little differently, I was able to find them without issue and complete these tasks.

Everything is now working the way it did originally, and I am grateful for the help!

I never expected the solution to be in the Message app itself.

Thank you!

I am using a Pixel 7 phone running Android version 14, and the Wyze app v3.2.6.592

Yeah, and I think that’s why @dave27 earlier said…

…because Google tends to change things between Android versions, but the steps are essentially the same.

In any case, I’m glad that you were able to figure it out despite the differences and get things back to the way they were before. Thanks for letting us know!
