V4 camera, recording failed when recording from playback

I just tested with both my iPad and my Android phone recording a 5 sec clip from the same camera.
iPad worked.
Android phone failed.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinkin’. I appreciate your taking the time to test and provide a report. I hope you’re also submitting a log and ticket (with the Log ID) to Wyze so that this gets on their radar.

I have a similar problem. 3-v3s and 2-v4s and most times get the same error recording from sd. On rare occasion it will record… but today, after learning of some car break-ins the other night I couldn’t pull the recorded video. Needless to say, I’m PISSED OFF. I’m normally a stoic individual, however, between this and the playback/live view connection issues, corrupt live view images I’ve been having with these and the NEW app … I’ve had it.

UPDATE: I’ve had several WYZE app crashes whiĺe trying to only VIEW recorded events and Samsung was nice enoùgh to confirm our suspicions…20240918-044941 hosted at ImgBB — ImgBB

I was using 128GB Sandisk of varying types up to Extreme Plus in the v4s and Android device with the WYZE app so I bought new Samsung 256GB in Pro Ultimate for all. Not the issue here.

Yes, that is the problem.

Quite disappointing that Wyze has not jumped on this yet.
Here’s a bit of additional detail.
I’ve just switched my cameras from V3 to V4.
I’ve noticed the issue today. I am able to record from the SD feed up to a certain time and after that I’m not.
Not sure if this is related or not, but that cutover timeframe from working to not working may be at the time of an even having been recorded and shown as two events in the timeline.
I have a Pixel 8 Pro . I trust that it will all work out fine on my wife’s iPhone, based on the other issue reports here.

I hope that this helps Wyze determine the issue and fix it. This is s significant but in my opinion.
No V3 issues seen. I still have a V3 operational. Cheers

Is there any open ticket for this bug? I’d like to add to it the info that I shared earlier on, in case that Wyze doesn’t check this forum much.

I called and submitted logs, ticket #4066009. In fact, I referenced this particular thread during my call with Wyze support. Naturally, I got a standard reply saying “As we are unable to offer any further troubleshooting. Keep an eye out for future app and firmware updates. If the issue persists after those updates, please continue to submit logs so that our engineers can continue improving our devices.”

What frustrates me and many others is that there is no acknowledgement from Wyze, or any other company in general, about the issue and whether they are working on a fix or not.

The lack of communication is simply, for lack of a better word, rampant. Customers are left in the dark very unfortunately.

I’ve just submitted a support ticket as well.
Fingers crossed

I have the same exact issue on september 21st. Started around 11am pst. I seriously need this function to work for a upcoming court case.

If the recording is needed for a legal matter, then why don’t you just pull the card and copy the video directly from that source, as you indicated you’d do in another topic?

I had the same problem. For me it started and July 14th - first on my tablet then on my Pixel 8 Pro. I rolled back camera Firmware, I rolled back the Wyze app and nothing improved. I will add that for me, I could record short videos, usually under 2 minutes. I had something I washed to record and the only way I was able to do it was to save 5 - 2 minute videos for a total of 10 minutes. I needed video for a certain date and it was funny to be overwritten sun so what i did was i took the microSd card out and put it in my computer. then i copied all files from the SD card to my computer and labeled them. I figured when the problem was fixed i could transfer then back to ass Micro SD card and then put them into a v4 camera with the record to SD card turned off. And tiI would be able to then save whatever i needed to save. Btw, this worked perfectly for me. them cameras continued having problems and then by luck I had new 128gb microSD cards delivered. Samsung Pro Endurance 128 gb. I formatted them on my computer which took a while but I wanted to do everything I could think of to continue trying to solve this issue. I put the MicrSD cards in and turned the cameras on. first I tried recording a short clip, 1m30s from micoSd. it worked but for me this worked before. Next after more time had elapsed, i tried to record a 20 minute video from MicroSD and it worked. I then tried a 40 min clip from MicroSD and it worked. I proceeded to test each of my 4 version 4 cameras and all of them were now working properly. I even then took the old microSD cards and put them in my computer to transfer the files that had originally been on MicroSd that i Transferred to my computer to hopefully be able to save once the issue was corrected. So i transferred the files back to the old microSD card. i say my V4 camera to not record to Sd card and i put the old microsd card into the camera. I went back to the date in July and tried to record a 20 min clip. it worked. next i did an almost 1 hour clip and it worked also. i tried this on all 4 cameras and it worked on all 4. it’s sad if the more micro SD cards reset something in the camera because after using the new SD cards, the old cards now functioned normally. I spent at least 50 hours trying different things and trying to research this issue. Everything worked out for me and I love my V4 cameras but I wish there was better documentation of past issues and that new issues that have been reported showed up immediately so i could have found someone else with the same problem. Also, it might be useful if pay past threads that are long or that contain valuable information, if they were summarized and indexed by Google AI or Chat Gpt. This might make it easier to find part threads and to eliminate s lot of the back and forth they may not be relevant and to keep the important info such as problem, if the problem was solved, issued it errors the problem caused and how the fix was reached was it a coding error, a big caused by ios or android etc … this this would not replace indoor but would be an organized summary and summary is one thing AI does very well. a lot of times it’s helpful to look at past issues to help with issues today. they’re May be similarities or other info that may be useful. As it stands now it is nearly impossible to find old information from this forum in a timely way.

The latest app update hasn’t fixed this unfortunately. I have a ticket open, I encourage anyone who is having this issue to enter a support ticket and supply logs. Hopefully this can be corrected, it’s a major issue.

I have been having this issue for the last 2 weeks as well and just stumbled across this thread so thought I would chime in. I have v4 Wyze Cam w/updated firmware, 256GB SD card and my Android app is current. I have no issues viewing the video stream from the SD card, but have had issues saving clips on both my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra as well as my Galaxy Tab S7 but the results here have been sporadic. It usually fails to save with the “Recording failed with error: Recorded Empty File. Deleted” error, but have sometimes seen it not display that error and have ended up with an empty video file.

I decided to give in another shot today on my Galaxy S7 and I was able to save a 17 sec clip, but each subsequent attempt to save resulted in the Recording failed with error: Recorded Empty File. Deleted” error.

I was able to reproduce the above scenario two more times. e.g. Restart the app, then successfully save a video clip on the 1st attempt, and then all subsequent attempts at saving a video clip failed with the same error message as above. On this 3rd attempt, I finally managed to get the full 3 minute video of what I was trying to archive (a damn heron grabbing two koi from my pond :frowning: ) so I’m good for the time being, but it would be really nice if the root issue here could be resolved.

The silence on the part of WYZE indicates to me they have NO INTENTIONS to fix this, instead, herd us along into paid services while slowing tightening the noose. I’m going to have to get a refund on my 2 new v4s before long.

I could not duplicate any failure on my v4 with the latest 3.1.5 app update. Recording works fine.

I am using a 128 GB card in my v4 and 32GB in all v3 and v2s.

You using IOS?

Look above, the stated thread category is: " Cameras androidcam-v4"

Sure, that’s the stated thread however the forum is repleat with people commenting, “I have no problem with my iphone!”, so just clarifying without having to reread this thread a sixth time.
