V3 on cam plus lite - not detecting person and no cool down period - Solved

Is anyone else noticing strange behavior with cameras on a cam plus lite subscription? I have at least one v3 that is no longer detecting people. That same camera does not have a 5 minute cool down between events. Also, the event recordings are well over 12 seconds long.

I restarted the camera, reset the AI on the camera, re-flashed the firmware to the latest on the camera. Moved it off of cam plus lite for 2 hours then back.

What is going on?

I believe I saw this once before a long time ago.

It’s interesting that it gives full event recording, but also blocks ai detections, so it’s not accidentally given you free cam plus.

Very strange. Would love to hear anyone else confirm

This is happening on two of my v3’s, but not all. I swapped camera locations around to ensure person detection is where I want it. WYZE gear continues to be problematic and troublesome for me. It has been like this on and off since 2018.

My v3 cameras on Cam Plus Lite still record 12 second clips with a 5 minute cooldown and am still getting Person Notifications.

What I a noticing is an increase number of False Person Tagging over the past week. I have been doing the Thumbs Down more lately and correcting the AI. Here is one of the videos I corrected that was Tagged as Petson.

The cameras that are having this issue were pulled out of storage and re-added to my account. They were on my account a long time ago, deleted, then put in a closet for months/years. I wonder if this has something to do with it?

They are both running the current firmware as of today because I manually flashed them both. Pulling them out of storage and re-adding them to my account is the one thing these cams have in common. I decided to delete one of the 2 problematic cameras from my account and put it back in storage. Thus, I now only have 1 camera acting this way. However, I know if I pull the other from storage and add it to my account again, it will not act right via the cam plus lite subscription.

Have checked both within the App and on the Wyze web site that your old cameras are attached to your Lite service? Seems to me they have to be checked in the App and the web site to work properly.

Thanks for the tip! My smart app has them set properly. I went to the website and a couple of v3 cameras said cam plus lite next to them, but the check box for cam plus lite was not selected. One of these two cameras was working properly and the other was not. I will do more testing later to see if the one that was not functioning properly starts to act right.

Ensuring cam plus lite is enabled in the web app as well as the smart app did nothing for this issue. My cam is still recording long motion events without cool off with no person AI. This holds true even though cam plus lite is selected in both placed.

I seriously think it has to do with the fact this camera was pulled out of storage. After adding it to the app again, I was very surprised to see the old detection zone and several other things still configured. Thus when you delete a camera from the app, there is still info associated with that cam stored in the WYZE cloud with your account.

In Settings - Device Info of a added back camera, does it show the original Activation Date?

It sure does.

I just ended my call with him. He told me there is a problem with the camera. I had to provide an order number from 2022 when this camera was activated. He is going to “negotiate” a warranty claim on my behalf and get back with me via email within an hour. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 0

I know where this is going. They are going to throw me some lame amount of money towards the purchase of a new camera that won’t even work on cam-plus-lite.

There is no problem with the camera. The problem is with the back end at WYZE. They need to reset the camera or simply remove it from the back-end so I can add it to my account again. This WILL fix the problem. However, the support team at WYZE is limited in what they can do and what they are willing to try.

If I put the cam on cam-plus everything works as it should. When it is on cam-plus-lite it records for more than 12 seconds with no 5-minute cooldown and no person detection.

WYZE is telling me it’s a problem with the camera. Clearly the camera works just fine! Again, there is a problem with the back-end services!

Don’t let them talk you into that. If the camera is working other than for person detection I’d suggest waiting to see if it might “fix” itself. I’m not sure why the Wyze support staff wold offer anything since this is such an old camera. Did Joe explain what was wrong with the camera, what problem it was experiencing and why it couldn’t be fixed?

Have you tried re-adding the camera without deleting it first? I’d try that.

Joe never sent the follow up email he promised in 1 hours time. I just took your advice and re-added the camera to my account without deleting it. The camera is still detecting all motion, has no cool down periods, and does not detect a person. I checked, and it is till on the cam-plus-lite service subscription.

No, Joe was pretty much clueless. He had no idea what was wrong with the camera and no idea how to go about fixing it. His solution was to negotiate on my behalf some sort of warranty claim. As mentioned, based on years of prior experience, this typically results in WYZE offering some amount of store credit to buy a new cam, which won’t support cam-plus-lite.

The camera works just fine when on cam-plus subscription. Move it over to cam-plus lite and it does not work the way it should when on that service.

I remember this thread a while back discussing how Wyze was considering binding cameras to a Cam Plus subscription because it was not intuitive switching cameras when a subscription was purchased.

I am wondering if this explains why your cameras works on Cam Plus but not Lite?

I remember that thread as well. The thing is, I’ve never purchased cam plus unlimited.

What CamPlus license(s) do you have? I seem to recall I had problems until my license for Plus completely expired before I could use Lite again.

I have a 4 device license for Cam Plus.

Good news! I got it working. No idea if support did something or not as they never communicated further.

Sequence of events from beginning:

  1. Cam was pulled from storage
  2. Flashed firmware as far as I could
  3. Updated firmware all the way over the air
  4. Put cam on CP-lite via app
  5. Noticed issues: Long events, no cooldown, no person detection
  6. Checked website, noticed it was not on CP-lite, so added it there too
  7. Waited a week or more
  8. Had tried resetting AI multiple times via the app to no avail
  9. Contacted support this AM
  10. Re-added cam w/out deleting it by pressing setup button
  11. Still had same issue, as discussed in step 5
  12. About an hour ago, removed from CP-lite via app
  13. Checked website, saw it was also removed from CP-lite
  14. Turned off the detection zone
  15. Hammered the reset AI detection button in app 3 or 4 times back to back
  16. Restarted the cam via the app
  17. Waited about 30-minutes
  18. Walked in front of cam, got thumbnail on phone since it had no subscription
  19. Added to CP-lite via app
  20. Checked website and saw it was added there as well
  21. Waited about 15-minutes
  22. Walked in front of cam and it recorded 12-second clip with person detection!
  23. After waiting about a day, it is still working - I just re-enabled the detection zone.

It’s just that easy folks. LOL!

Glad you finally got it working. Now you now how to fix it next time!

Indeed and thanks. I was having the same issue with another cam I pulled out of storage along with the one mentioned in this thread. Due to the issues, I decided to put that one back in storage. I may pull it out again some time next week to see if I can get that one working properly on CP-lite.

LOL, WYZE support just sent me this:

Hello (my real name here),

I hope this email finds you well and we appreciate your patience as we attend to your request. I understand that you have issues with your Wyze Cam v3. My apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you. No worries, I’m Joana from the Orders Team and I’ll be happy to take over this on behalf of my colleague.

While we are generally unable to provide compensation for this situation due to the product being outside of warranty coverage, we truly value you as a customer and want to do our best to assist within what is possible. As a one-time courtesy, we would like to extend a $15 store credit, which is the maximum final compensation available for this case.

We understand this may not fully match the value of a replacement product, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this situation has caused. However, we hope this store credit can still provide some value toward future purchases should you choose to continue using our products.

To proceed with issuing your store credit, could you please confirm the following:

· The Wyze account (email address) where you would like the store credit applied

· Whether your account is registered under the US or Canada store

Once we receive your confirmation, we’ll process the store credit for you right away.

We appreciate your time and look forward to your response.

Here is my reply:

Thanks, but I don’t need a store credit. The camera is working properly now. With the assistance of others on the forum, I fixed the issue myself. You can read all about it here: V3 on cam plus lite - not detecting person and no cool down period - Solved

I can only imagine how much money your support team has cost WYZE corporation by giving out these credits. If you did a better job troubleshooting and solving problems instead of issuing credits, I am certain it would be appreciated by all parties involved.

In short, thanks but no thanks.
Regards,
