Using existing adt camera wiring for power

Recently moved and our new to us house had existing adt security cameras. After extensive searching I think I found an option to use the existing wiring to power my Wyze cams. The adt equipment is no longer functioning. Has anyone used the below to convert from old cameras to Wyze cameras? Is there something im missing and it won’t work? The adt cameras have a standard barrel connector.

One thing I would do is measure the size of the connector, because I know that there are different sizes and not a single “standard” size. (I’m thinking here of a recent question about the Light Strip barrel connector.) Fortunately, the product page you linked shows the dimensions for this device.

This device’s 5V DC output is what the Cam v4’s supplied power adapter is rated, though that’s supposed to provide 1A of current and this device’s description says 2.5A. The way that’s written I suspect that’s split between the two USB-A ports of this device if both are being used. I believe I’ve read other Forum members’ reports of using higher-amperage power adapters for their Cams, and apparently that hasn’t caused them problems, so I’ll be interested to learn what your experience is with something like this if you proceed.

Any electrical equipment will draw only what it needs in terms of Amps no matter what it is supplied to them. All my power adapters for amp my cameras are 2.5 Amps. I would be concerned with the voltage as it looks like the converter is adjustable. The OP should make sure that it is set to 5V.

I was thinking specifically of you (and maybe one or two others) when I made that comment because of the adapters you’re using in an outdoor box.

When I skimmed the description of the product @MarkH13 linked, I got the sense that it’s supposed to adjust its output voltage automatically, but I didn’t read every detail.

I checked the barrel plug and it’s the right size. I ordered it and will test on my older camera that needs retiring anyway just in case something isn’t right. Thanks for the help,

Just make 100% sure it puts out 5 volts into a standard USB connector. Any more than that and it will fry the cam. There is no way for it to “auto detect” output voltage, it has to be fixed at 5v.
