Thermostat separate programe for heat and cool

I live in an area where we bounce from hot to cold a lot. The automatic temp gap is too much and the house gets hot and then cold on the auto switch setting. Can there be a way to program the heat cycle separate from the cool cycle, or have multiple program options.
