I would find a valuable and easy to implement feature to detect grid presence. I have solar, with battery backup, and would like the ability to shut off ac to conserve battery until grid is restored. Detection is the issue. My backup is seamless, so no way to detect drop in ac, but Pwr co. Sends notifications, and solar detects loss.
Not in the Wyze universe, but likely the easiest way would be to pull power from the utility side of your transfer switch and use that to power a relay that allows the thermostat to tell the AC to operate. Power fails, relay opens and AC does not run.
Yeah, that’s kinda what I was thinking too, but I’m a hardware guy. It’s not elegant, but certainly easy. I just think that since my solar system can detect it and set my battery charge rate to full backup mode and report it to me in the app, but it won’t let me set a flag to cue the thermostat or any other device to shut down. The thermostat automation doesn’t even have any access to custom programming. Just am I home, away, or sleeping. ![]()
Home Assistant can probably do what you need. It has a Wyze component that would probably be able to talk to the thermostat, and depending on what you have for solar, probably a module to talk to your inverter. I have EG4 batteries and inverter as well as an Enphase rooftop system. Both talk to HA.
This is a screenshot from my HA instances showing the grid voltage detected by my EG4 inverter:
