Sprinkler Controller - S1 and S2 terminals

Looking to get some info on what the S1 and S2 terminals are looking for and the logic the controller uses for soil, rain sensors on these terminals.

Are these terminals:

  1. NO or NC contacts?
  2. What do they expect for this 24 VAC

If one or both of the S1/S2 terminals are tripped, is this the logic the controller needs to disable watering operations till cleared???

Any insight???

PS: YES I’ve read the connection diagram about this. It lacks details above.
