Smart Detection on but not recording events

I have 2, v4 cameras outside both with smart detection. Both pick up and track motion on the SD card but aren’t recording events. The only way I get notifications is if select record all events. I have motion tracking on, so I know it’s picking the motion up. But we’ve had deliveries all week and never once has it picked up any of the drivers walking up to the house or at the doorbell.

Motion tracking is on the Pan cams, not the v4. Can you clarify, do you mean the “smart focus”? If so, that digital zoom feature may be making it harder for the algorithm to decipher what the object is.

Sorry, I meant to say motion tagging. I also do not have smart focus on.

OK, that makes more sense. Does the cam have a clear view of their faces or is it maybe at an angle?

Another clarification - do you have continuous recording on and that’s why you see it on the SD card? If you have events only recording and they’re on the SD card, then it is working, maybe it is just notifications not working? If you have it on continuous, is anything tagged on the card timeline at all with an icon?

I do have continuous recording on which is why I can see the motion being tagged with the green box, but it doesn’t seem to record the motion unless record all events is selected. I use Life360 so I can see roughly when my wife or I leave for work. It will tag our cars but not record anything even on the SD card other than the green box. This happens on my Wyze Doorbell as well. Amazon will come up to the door, drop off a package within feet of the doorbell and nothing will be recorded on either camera.

Only things I can think is either the camera angle is such that it isn’t able to recognize/identify the people/cars, or your wifi/internet is not handling the upload of the clips in time for the analysis to happen (the AI analysis is done on their servers in the cloud).

You could try doing “reset services” then setting up your smart detections again to see if it helps.

I mean I have 500mb up and down so unless it can’t handle 5 ghz, I don’t see the internet being the issue. I tried to reset like you said and had smart detections set up again. Both doorbell and v4 cam missed the mailman walking up our drive and drop packages off at the door. I can understand the angle for the v4 mounted in the top corner of the garage, but the doorbell has me confused. If all events are on it will catch every shadow and mouse move from 200ft away, but only notify you if other motions is set up in notifications.

The v4 camera is 2.4ghz only. Congestion is obviously pretty bad on that band and it has a lot of interference from other devices too. But if playback in live view and/or from the SD card is smooth, then your wifi is probably ok. One of the doorbells supports 5ghz but that obviously has a much harder time going through walls etc, not sure which model you have or if it is one that supports 5ghz or not.

Only thing I can suggest is resetting services and then going back in and unchecking the stuff you don’t want. Note that the events and notifications settings are slightly different screens so confirm both.
