Is it necessary to have a fast micro SD card?
Or will a standard SD card be adequate for capture and playback?

You need a Class 10 or better microSD card. I personally use many brands from Wyze to Samsung Pro Endurance cards, and have had no problems with any of them. YMMV.
My cards are all 32 GB and below from the old days. The V3 and V2 can reliably go higher if they have the most recent firmware.
