Since RTSP support was officially added to the production firmware channel for Cam v3 back in February, why wouldn’t you just use that? Note that this newer firmware requires a recent app version, so perhaps that’s your limiting factor? I imagine the “[s]ecurity improvements” are largely related to VerifiedView, which is another reason to be using newer app and firmware versions whenever possible.
That’s actually what I’m trying to do.
My cameras are currently running the old RTSP firmware (4.61.0.3), and I haven’t found a way to migrate them to the new production firmware with integrated RTSP.
Is there an official upgrade path from 4.61.0.3 to the current production firmware (4.36.16.x), or do I need to manually flash an intermediate firmware first?
Problem I have is when I upgraded to allow RTSP several days later it upgraded to a different firmware and then RTSP stopped. Even choosing to not allow automatic updates failed.
I was actually able to migrate one of my cameras to the new firmware (4.36.16.6114), but unfortunately I’m still experiencing the same issue.
The RTSP option appears under Advanced Settings, but when I tap it, it still returns:
“GET RTSP Failed. Please try again.”
So it doesn’t seem to be limited to the old 4.61.0.3 RTSP firmware.
Is anyone currently running 4.36.16.6114 and able to configure RTSP successfully?
You will definitely need to flash the camera.

You shouldn’t need to use an intermediary firmware, but if you are struggling flashing to the latest version, then try an earlier one first, then you can OTA up to the latest.

Since your older firmware is actually a higher version number than the most recent production firmware (4.61.x > 4.36.x), you may want/need to download the more recent production firmware and flash it to your Cams (starting with one to make sure it works as expected). Note that Step 4 in the instructions (see link) is wrong, as it describes the name of a “folder”, but all you want in the root directory of your microSD card is the single appropriate .bin file. Once you’re able to get a Cam v3 flashed to current firmware, it should be on the correct production channel (and/or beta if you choose to enroll in that) for future OTA updates.
Yeah, I’d just grab a recent firmware and flash that since your older RTSP firmware is a higher version number.
What Cam model and firmware version are you using? I don’t have any Cam v3s but have been playing with RTSP on a Cam Pan v3 for a while, and just a few minutes ago I enabled RTSP for the first time on another Cam Pan v3 running firmware 4.50.16.6242. The app was giving me errors indicating that RTSP wasn’t set up or that it failed, but as I write this I’m streaming via RTSP into VLC media player, so I think something’s buggy in the app.
That’s the kind of message I was seeing on Cam Pan v3 with firmware 4.50.16.6242, but the stream is apparently working despite the error messages the app is showing me.

I am getting the same error.
All UI works but when I go through go2rtc I get a single frame and then that is it.
RTSP services seem to bind up.
I’m not sure what the issue would be. With this same Cam Pan v3, I’m currently streaming into Firefox using go2rtc, which I just downloaded and tried for the first time only a few minutes ago. This happens to be on Windows 11 Pro, and I had to allow it through the default Windows firewall when I first started the application, but it was easy to add in the browser’s UI. I used add ➜ Temporary stream and then gave it a name and the same URL I was using with VLC media player, and it loaded right up for me when I got back to the main page and clicked the stream link.

Hi there, with regard to 4.61.0.3 and RTSP… I had a few V3s running the old firmware RTSP. I use multiple cameras of different manufacturers to pipe those streams into the Home Assistant.
I’m no expert, but here’s what’s worked for me. I searched and AI’d all the ways to flash from the 4.6. X down to the 4.3 xxx or I should say downgrade without flashing. After my deep search, mind you, and like I said, I am no expert. But I deemed it was only possible if you downgrade to either your target software or anything reasonably lower. The point being anything lower is that you are able to OTA upgrade to current. No flash. It’s easy too. Once you do it once and you have your little chip all set up, It’s just bang bang for whatever more cameras you have.
About losing your connection to RTSP, I have had that problem just randomly and on updating. I’m currently trying an experiment and it has not failed yet. That is setting a static IP for said camera.
Also, I have had to repeatedly battle some non-documented glitches. Once you are down to the current RTSP software 4.36.x and are setting up or resetting RTSP. You do your username and password then it will fail, more times than not. But I found that if it suggests that you retry, BUT it provides your own username and password that you just created automatically, You are golden! Just click yes and that has succeeded for me in that manner multiple times with multiple cameras. Also, for some reason, but not exclusively, I’ve had more success with RSTSP than RTSP. But take that with a grain of salt.
So also once you have got all of that jiving, over in Home Assistant I have found another goofy glitch in specific with the Generic Camera Integration, If you are doing all of that, when you enter all your junk and configuring your RTSP feeds in generic camera. When you hit enter and it shows you a preview with a spinning wheel… You could sit there until the Martians come home waiting for a preview to pop up. It won’t. I’ve been through this thing 30 plus times and I can say with confidence once you’ve got that waiting for a preview spinning wheel you already are golden just click the little it looks good box. I’ve done that many times and have about six or seven v3 variants all in home assistant feeding RTSP or RTSTP or whatever the hell is called, the secure one. And every time your IP changes, you have to go through that little process again to get it running in Home Assistant.
Anyway, Vasquez and others, I hope that’s of some assistance. Mind you, like I said, I am no expert. Just somebody who has unfortunately got sucked down the same rabbit hole and sharing what has worked for me.,.
Yeah, so point being, once you’ve manually flashed the lower, newer, 4.36 firmware, you’re OTA for the rest of your life, hopefully.,.. Good luck, JB.
I still have a couple of V3s running on the 4.61.XXX and then about four or five others. Some of which I had to downgrade to 4.36.x for the upgrades If that makes any sense. Only way was to downgrade to something lower around 4.36.something and then once you’re there you can OTA update to your target current 4.36.whatever.
but to answer your question I don’t know this for a fact I was running two cameras on 4.61 and they were still working flawlessly and feeding into home assistant so I figured if it’s not broken don’t fix it. But over the last week or two, they stopped feeding. And when I try to reset up RTSP, it just fails every single time, repeatedly. Both cameras. So I reckon they have pulled the rug out from under us using the old, old, old 4.61 RTSP. Good luck. Also see later in the thread. I went into more detail about my experience with this. When you have better streaming quality when using RTSPs, maybe your network is experiencing some packet loss. You can also try stream RTSP over TCP.
4.61.0.3 is actually a much older version then 4.36.16.x which Wyze released for RTSP feature but no longer maintain it. Expecting to release 4.36.17.x soon, which RTSP is embedded in the firmware.
It is highly recommended to have a static IP camera setup if you want a reliable connection.
I have reported the glitches of RTSP setup to APP team.
I am also getting the RTSP error on all V3 cams. “GET RTSP Failed. Please try again”. The stream still works though.
Where is the issue “GET RTSP Failed. Please try again” from?
Same happens to me. I also search for V3 rtsp and can’t find an update/status for V3. It’s in the latest firmware, but isn’t working. Doesn’t make sense to me. Can someone give an update?
