Revert to previous app 2.x

Not happy Wyze released 3.0 without warning. We should all be given the opportunity to not elect the upgrade and block it… and revert to the previous app.

The new app design is far less efficient use on space. I hate how I can’t see thumbnails of all my important cameras at a glance anymore.

I also am very disappointed you forced this app in the store without comprehensive instructions to allow people to block it. Should have been released as a separate app for people to upgrade. I do not appreciate my phone auto updating to find out I’m on this new inefficient design while in the middle of a long road trip away from home.

You’ve made my life more difficult and less secure.

Please let us go back until you implement all the feedback/changes the Beta and public teams willing to try the new version have been implemented and tested in code changes.

Thank you.

I don’t work for Wyze, but I might be able to help you switch back to the 2.5 app if you have Android. (I’ll post those instructions toward the end.

What kind of warning would you have preferred? They sent at least 5 emails about this new app coming out soon starting back in May. They also talked about it with social media posts, etc. So, they legitimately gave us nearly 2 months notice and multiple messages. I am not sure what other notice they can legally give that wouldn’t have people more upset about being “spammed” than happy to be notified differently. It does seem to me like 2 months of notifications is a reasonable effort to let people know though. That would allow people sufficient time to update their app store settings to tell it not to do automatic app updates for the Wyze app if they don’t want them. But it does seem like there were still a good amount of people who wish they’d been notified differently, so I am curious what ideas people have or would suggest to Wyze for HOW to notify people differently than the methods they currently use to disseminate information.

If you are on Android you can do this. Here are the steps

I don’t really use iOS, and it isn’t as flexible and as Android, but I think some people in the past have told me that Testflight might sometimes let people revert back to previous versions of apps, though I’m sure there is a limit and it will still eventually expire and force you to update to 3.0. Since this app has been in Beta for months already, it might already be too late and not have a 2.5 version available to switch to though. I don’t know what Testflight’s limitations are for app reversion.

iOS settings > App Store > set your preferences for general automatic downloads and the same under Cellular Data

Five months of warning? Not that I recall. All of the sudden, this morning, a differ4ent App logo and a different interface. UGH!

My prime gripe is that I now only see a subset of all my cams with the new app. And there is no guidance as to how to get them added to the display list.

I agree with whyzzysyr, it is annoying that now can’t see most of my cams at one time.

I appreciate the suggestion of reverting my Android phone to 2.50 using the APKMirror but I need more hand-holding to do the reversion. I’m looking at the site on my laptop. Shall I assume I need to navigate to this site on my phone instead?

My previous version was 2.50.9. I don’t see that exact version, (version 2.50.9-512 is the closest) nor do I see which alternatives might be the bundle option. Then, several “download” buttons appear. Which one is the right one?

Do I do a download from there and it will behave just like downloading from the App store? Do I need to delete the V3 app first?

Very intimidating.

@carverofchoice has written details on how to return. Use search. Too bad we don’t have a wiki for repeated information.

In general I love almost everything about Wyze but I hate the layouts that came with this app update; as an iPhone user - no options to revert to an older version.

The instructions from @carverofchoice were the instructions i was following. I get to the APKPURE site and that is where the confusion sets in. There is a bunch of stuff saying “Download” and most is ads for stuff other than the Wyze App V 2.50.

Can someone give EXTREMELY detailed instructions as to how to proceed on the APKPURE site that a dummy like me can follow.? I have already shut off AutoUpdate the Play Store.

I really need to get back to being able to effectively use my Wyze cams.

Hopefully someone else will chime in. I don’t use APKs as a practice. @Crease probably has a good write-up.

I don’t, because…

This is the closest I’ve gotten recently, though it was pointing someone else to a relevant @carverofchoice post and then providing links to the APKMirror (not APKPure, though I don’t have a preference) FAQ and appropriate download page:

There are no 3 dots on the Play Store Wyze app. It just shows installed and nothing else.

What if I want other apps to update but not Wyze? iOS doesn’t have a per application option.

I get to it this way:

  1. Long-press the Wyze app icon.
  2. Tap App info in the menu that pops up.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the App info screen (swipe up from the bottom) until you see App details; it may be necessary to tap Advanced to expose App details, depending on your Android version.
  4. Tap App details; this should take you directly to the app’s entry in Google Play Store.
  5. The vertical ellipsis should be in the upper-right corner; tap that.
  6. Uncheck Enable auto update in the pop-up menu.

Let me know if pictures would be helpful.

Incidentally, I want to tell @ssummerlin that I appreciate the earlier vote of confidence, even though I didn’t have what he suggested. I neglected the thanks in my previous response.

You’re probably looking at the search page and not the actual app page:

The app page will look like this:

This search page doesn’t have the 3 dots because it’s not the app page:

If you’re seeing something different, can you clarify what Phone model, and Android OS version you have? You may also need to update your google play app.

@Crease gave a good walk through about how to make sure you navigate to the correct app page

You’re most welcome. I know you would give your best, and you have.

Yes, Very detailed instructions.
I am trying to revert back to the 2.5 version of the app looking for it on an APK site following the instructions from @carverofchoice . I get to the site OK but it is unclear exactly how to proceed from there to get the correct download and install it.
Can anyone give clear instructions such as @Ceease gave for shutting off the Auto Update for downloading and installing from a specific APK site so I can revert to to V2.5.xx?

I don’t know which site you’re using, but this should be where to get the latest v2.5x Android app from APKMirror:

I haven’t personally used the site routinely, so a good place to start is probably by reading the “Installing Apps” section of the FAQ:

Yeah, APK mirror can be tricky since they allow basically any advertising to cover their crazy bandwidth costs to keep it free. You have to be careful you don’t fall for the fake “Download now” ads that aren’t actually part of APK mirror. You can usually tell they are an ad and not the REAL download link because they will have these ad symbols in the top right corner of that box for the ad:

image

Anything that has that symbol is a fake download link and just an ad trying to get you to get their stuff instead of the real download you are intending to get.

Let me make it simple for you though.

APK mirror only has the bundle download for the 2.50.9.512 hotfix app version, so we have to go down 1 more version to get the easy to install APK download. We will get you a direct link to the 2.50.7.487 version of the Wyze app instead. Here is a direct link for you

If it doesn’t automatically start to download or popup a download link for you when you click on that, scroll to find this exact button to click and it will then start for you:

image

If you click on that button it will retrigger the download process. (remember, don’t click on any that have that weird ad symbol to the upper right of the “ad”.

For anyone that wants/needs the slightly newer hotfix app version 2.50.9.512 that uses a bundle download instead of the easy to install APK, you will have to first download a special bundle installer like this one:

If you install that first, then you’ll be able to download and install the bundle app files instead of just the easy to sideload APK files. I don’t generally suggest that method because it isn’t as easy as using an APK file, but for those who feel moderately tech-savvy, you can do it that way.

I hope that helps.

Ugh. I just looked at this in regular Google Chrome on Android. :worried::grimacing:

Good call on that one. This confirms my decision to use mostly Mozilla Firefox + uBlock Origin + Privacy Badger or Mozilla Firefox Focus as a default browser on Android. I don’t even see the ads with those. (I don’t blame APKMirror or similar sites for presenting advertisements. They have to keep the lights on somehow.)

I appreciate the additional detail about the versions/bundles.

And help it did!! THANK YOU for helping me through the APK minefield!

Armed knowing my Android version (14) and my phone’s screen resolution (in my case 480dpi found using a Device Info app) I was able to select the reversion file that got me back to a usable version. I learned a lot researching how to do this and with your coaching, made it through.

If I can do it, with a bit of determination most anyone can do it.

And thanks again.
