We have had a pair of Osprey nesting the past couple of years in a dead tree near our backyard. The tree was damaged by Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and the nest has been added-to each year but without successful results. This year it appeared to be different - until recently.
We have a Wyze cam set up in our bedroom window looking out over the backyard. I happened to be looking out the window when the tree fell and was pleased to see it captured on video. A close review will show the female Osprey escaping about 6 seconds into the video.
The base of the tree had been weakened by termites near the ground. A portion of the nest was floating in the lagoon with an egg intact. The parents hovered around the area for several days searching for the nest.
