No blue light & won't pass "ready to connect"

Summary -

We have recently purchased three Cam Pan v3 cameras and two cam bulbs. One of the Cam Pans used to be connected via wifi, but no longer is and the other two never managed to connect. The cam bulbs have never had any problems.

Beginnings of Cam Pan v3 -

  • Camera 1 - First, we bought one, set it up, checked how it worked for several days, even checking its re-connectivity by periodically turning off/on electrical and wifi connection, before deciding all was well. The connection always came back without human intervention. However, it no longer connects at all.
  • Camera 2 - Then we bought a second one, but it never connected to our wifi, despite multiple efforts.
  • Camera 3 - Thinking the second camera was “bad luck”, we bought a third camera, but unfortunately, it didn’t connect at all either.

Concerning Cam Pan v3 cameras 2 and 3 -

The procedure for connecting to wifi via the Android mobile app would always continue up to “ready to connect” and would never go beyond that point, with:

  • the red light continuing to flash and no visible sign of the blue light that shows it’s trying to connect to wifi
  • the “ready to connect” continuing to sound off until the device is unplugged.
  • and no results after rebooting the cameras by pressing SETUP for 10 (or more) seconds.

Wifi split into two - 2.4GHz & 5.0GHz created Camera 1 problems!!! -

Believing at first that it was due to the wifi connection, my provider split it into two networks. I was able to reconnect the two Wyze cam bulbs, but not the first Cam Pan v3. Thus, the first Cam Pan v3 has lost its excellent connection, despite multiple attempts with rebooting. Camera 1 is currently functioning like Cameras 2 and 3 with absolutely no sign of a blue light!!!

Questions:

Is it possible to get Camera 1 working again?

Concerning Cameras 2 and 3, is it a factory production issue that’s at the root?

For cam 1 - you said you hard power cycled it several times? Maybe the adapter got damaged from that? Try a different wall adapter and see.

For cams 2 and 3 are you getting to the point of scanning the QR code? Sometimes it takes some trial and error holding the phone closer and further away to get it to scan. If your phone screen has zoom enabled you may have to disable that temporarily.

There are some settings in newer wifi routers that can interfere with IOT devices too so if the above doesn’t work there are some things you can try in there too. Particularly locking your 2.4ghz to 20mhz channel (not 20/40 or auto), making sure the encryption type is WPA2 only (not 2/3 or 3), and ensuring the router doesn’t have any “band steering” or “smart connect” turned on where it tries to force devices to 5ghz. If you split the bands, that should have disabled the 3rd one, but check the other two.

Also sometimes it helps to just totally disable the 5ghz band during setup, if your phone is on one band and the cam on another, some routers incorrectly block some traffic between the bands and it can cause issues. Once set up it should be fine to have them on different bands.
