New interface in playback from SD Card is BAD!

The latest update to the interface for my wyzeCam pan v3 cameras is TERRIBLE. Why would I want to reduce the size of the video to review it??? This is a huge backwards step. Put the timeline at the bottom of the full screen video, where it belongs. I have worked in CCTV for 20 years and this is the worst. I loved how simple and reliable WyzeCams were. Stop complicating things!

Welcome to the forum, @williamwamplerjr .

They may be working toward making the interface more consistent across camera models.

Up and downstream from this post in this thread:

for more perspective.

On Android, when in portrait mode the timeline is still under the video and doesn’t shrink it (just horizontal now instead of vertical). When in landscape mode, double tapping the video puts the timeline on the left and shrinks the video (where previously you could not get the timeline in landscape mode). But you don’t have to have it there, double tapping gets rid of it again. This is similar to how the v4 always worked from the start (they just changed the v4 from vertical to horizontal with this update.

Is it different on IOS?

Personally I liked the horizontal timeline overlaid on the video that it had long ago. I think the perfect combo would be below the video in portrait mode and overlaid on it in landscape.

Change is always going to ruffle feathers. I think they need to bite the bullet and roll out a single interface for all cams, even if it is only all cams going forward, and those cams will always get updated with whatever changes get made. The OGs and anything older were not updated (yet anyway).

Don’t you realize that they tried to make the sd card feature as hard as possible. So customers would pay for the subscription.

The simple answer is no. iOS is different now. I hate the new interface. If I’m trying to find details in a video, why would I want to reduce the size to move the timeline? It’s just stupid.

I don’t have anything IOS so I can’t see it. Maybe post a screen shot? Sounds very strange, on Android, the timeline is at the bottom when in portrait (upright) mode and you do not have to reduce the size of the video to move it.

Do you happen to have zoom/magnify enabled in IOS that makes things on your screen bigger? That might be what is causing the symptoms you’re seeing.

That looks to me like a landscape mode and that is normal view as there is no room to put the timeline at the bottom without having to scroll down, which will be useless option. What happens if you turn your phone in portrait mode?

Here are screen shots of my Cam V4 in both portrait and landscape mode, no different than yours.

On android, in landscape the timeline is not there when you first go into it. You have to double tap the video to shrink it and bring up the timeline on the right.

Maybe IOS is the opposite, if you double tap the video (or maybe one of those icons on the top right) does it go to full screen?

I actually don’t like the double tap as I’m used to doing that to zoom in/out on the video when in landscape mode, can’t do that anymore (well still can with the OGs).

No different on iOS. However, I would prefer the timeline overlayed on top of the full screen video but we can’t always get what we want

So I wonder what OP is complaining about then? Previously the feature was not there at all in landscape, and they certainly are not required to use the new feature. Before you had to change to portrait to move on the timeline, you can still use it that way now.

Yes, I agree the overlay would make more sense. They can’t seem to make up their mind.

It doesn’t bother me in Android, double tap or swipe the grey bar, pinch, back and forth for bigger zoomed video, timeline keeps running.

Actually think the timeline control is better this way. Finer control. Seems to be more control over the timeline too.

Something to do I guess

That’s typical for Wyze

The setup is fine, I’m just used to double tapping to zoom in and out which you used to be able to do, now it brings up the timeline instead.

I still would prefer a timeline overlaid on the video at the bottom like it used to be, seems to make more sense. Oh well.

It wasn’t like that before. It had the timeline across the bottom like it should. Now the interface is less useful because the video is smaller making it harder to find details.

There was never a timeline in landscape view, period. In portrait view, yes there was, same as it is now. This is a new “feature” that Wyze introduced with the new update. Do we like it, some do and some don’t. The issue has been around since digital realm was born. Hardware/Software companies are doing it all the time and we have no say in their path of “progress”. We either move away or we adapt.

Honestly, I don’t see a reason behind your complaint.
