My First Waxwings at the Birdbath

I always wanted to see them in person. I didn’t even know they were congregating in my yard yesterday.

Nice shiny suits they have and that strange yellow tipped tail. I’ve never seen one before.

And red on the wing tips. A bunch of them were chirping away in the trees. I read that they congregate during mating season and mostly during winter months. When I heard them, I thought I was hearing blackbirds.

 yeah

Ann, what’s your intent with the christmas ornaments around your watering bowl? Decorative? Or to scare away…what? I’ve got deer innumerable. If that’s your intent, and it works, you’ve won an admirer!

Haha, thanks, but they’re just yard solar lights. My mother has a bunch in her garden, and they all look so neat at night. They’re fun to look at. I’m going to put up a few more later. Normally, I have my tropical plants around the birdbath, but they’re inside for the winter, and it was looking a bit sparse there.
I haven’t seen any deer come through the yard in a out 4 yrs now. They used to come through on their way to the corn field out back, stopping in the yard to eat the fallen fruits off the ground (the tree has since been taken down, though).
