Multiple Users' Permissions for Shared Users

It has actually been almost seven (Yes, 7) years… Ticket was opened October, 2018. I think it would not be premature to call it now, Wyze has no intention of fixing this issue as it would require a “complete rewrite” of the application. But, you might say, Wouldn’t any application, especially one that handled very personal data like videos of your home, require a rewrite every few years due to advances is technology and security requirements?" I said that anyway, Not Wyze.

The Wyze App does not contain the concept of a UserID, it only has an account, accessed by the “shared password” work around mentioned so many times in this thread.

<BTW, shared password are the devil’s work and should never, ever be used in anything that matters>

These are not the same thing. An account identifies a customer account, for billing and such, not an individual user for application access control, audit and logging. Once you have access to the account, everything else is “access all” or “view only”, you are either GOD or a fly on the wall.

My first request for this “feature” (I had to stop to laugh, imagine thinking that auditable access control to cameras that watch your homestead is optional) was back in 2019/2020 I think, been a while anyway. NO PROGRESS, NO CHANGE. Not even an attempt. At this point the inadequate security design appears to be intentional.

So, good luck, I’m looking for an alternative. I will not be buying any additional devices from WYZE unless I see some progress on this item. WYZE feel free to have your Security team contact me for an in depth discussion of why and how to fix this, this is what I did for thirty years before I retired.

Yep, 7 years. Is this to get people to sign up for CamPlus or whatever? I am paying my subscription fee, but still…The events do not capture everything, because there is a cooling-off period between events (or Wyze’s servers would fill up). So why not implement this feature? I bought the SD card to get full coverage for something I might expect happened between events. Or my wife… But she has to use my phone, or take out the SD card to see.

The feature is there. I think it almost took more effort to disable it for guests. I’d be happy if it was just enabled for all users. Lots of talk about classes of user and who should be allowed to do what way back in 2018.

Analysis paralysis?

This shouldn’t be hard. I currently have wife logged in with my account and she has full access to obviously.

Here’s the issue. We are two different people. I have settings and notifications (more) than she would prefer. She does have some though. We tested the settings on our phones with my one “owner” login. Whatever you do to one, happens to the other phone. This is terrible. Sharing a camera has its place. Maybe a camera that also catches neighbors driveway and you share that camera with them. Cool whatever. But this is her system as much as it is mine

I need my wife to have her own email/user name…something so she can set the phone settings up as she prefers and I can set mine for my preference.

This isn’t hard and is something I would have thought was already there.

Disappointed.

They won’t fix it. They don’t care about people that have already given them money. They only care about selling new people underdeveloped products.

I shared a camera I installed at my mom’s house with my sister. We spent the weekend together at my mom’s house this past week and my sister’s phone was blowing up with notifications. I asked her about it and she said it was due to that shared camera. I asked why she didn’t alter the notification permissions while we were there. We were surprised to find there are no settings for her to control that on her phone. And if she disabled notifications for the app, it would silence notifications for the cameras at her home. That’s crazy!

The basic control a user should have on the “app user’s phone” seems to have been lost in this Wishlist. it’s disappointing that someone at Wyze hasn’t broke out that basic feature out of this overwhelming Wishlist.

I’ll add that I’m really disappointed that this has been going on for as long as it has. I know you’ve had things to work on; but the inattention to a simple request like “I need to control over what notifications are raised on my phone via” is simply unacceptable.

I’ll be replacing cameras because of this.

I think thats a fair point.

i have a reolink system for perimeter to install. Will see what options it gives me for other parts of house and i maybe cancel wyze.

wyze image is ok i guess. Sound is terrible. And chime function on doorbell is very annoying.

Yeah seems this could be updated and make customer happy. Wierd the way they don’t prioritize giving customers best product.

Not for nothing, and it is perhaps not a perfect solution, but on Android devices you can “snooze” individual notifications. You can also selectively disable specific notification channels for the Wyze app (or any app). If one has an Apple phone, there may very well be identical functionality, but I’m not familiar with Apple phones.

The problem with that approach is that Wyze hasn’t really implemented Android Notification Channels in a way that allows users to control the experience in a truly useful way (see Customizable notifications (Incl: Android Notification Channels)). If @trkmsa’s sister is using Android, then it’s possible for her to selectively silence/dismiss notifications from specific devices, but that involves the use of a third-party notification interceptor app, as has been discussed previously in this topic and others. If using iOS, then I’m aware of no such solution. This is something Wyze should’ve fixed a long time ago, and I just asked one of the cofounders for an update in another topic.

Welcome to the Forum, @trkmsa!

I was actually planning on moving all of my cameras for two properties to Wyze but the lack of this feature is making me change my mind. I am looking for another solution where my husband can also see the SD card without having to have a shared login.

Emergency Contact view cameras during an alarm

When the alarm with Moon light is activated and my emergency contact gets a notification they need to have access to the security cameras.

No I don’t want them to see the cameras all the time when I am home but they do need to see what is going on since they have the ability to turn off the alarm. We need this feature.

This topic and the overcomplicated attempts at solving it 6 years ago are perfect example of what we call “bike shedding” in the computer industry.

At the core of the requests here, we can identify 2 main issues:

  • 1- The fact that the “on/off” button is just to prominent in the app and easy to push by clueless users.
  • 2- Most users just want a simple “admin vs viewer” mode.
  • 3- A minority of power-users want overcomplicated granularity control.

Point 1 is almost orthogonal but that’s actually the issue I’m facing. I trust the users I share the cameras with, except they tend to push the “off” button by mistake just because it’s right there in the middle of the camera view on the Android app. If that on/off feature was pushed away in the 3-dot menu or simply had a confirmation popup, that would solve the issue for probably half of the people here.

Points 2 & 3 are the core issue. But let’s face it: most users just need a “viewer only mode” when sharing a camera, with no more granularity than that, If that were the default when sharing a camera, that thread would be mostly empty. Sure, if you ask what people want, they will tell you they want “everything”, yet for consumer-level software like Wyze is, less is more. Easier to get implemented too and actually get done.

That seems more relevant to these other Wishlist topics:

My parents share their Wyze cam with me. But I do not want to get notifications for their cameras.
It would be nice to be able to disable my notifications for shared cameras.

Why not allow us to check or uncheck which features should be enabled or disabled for whoever we share the camera with, rather than giving set tiers?

In the recent Wyze survey on challenges for 2026, I suggested addressing these irritants.

Settings for permission users

Huge wish for any camera. I’d really love to see a permission settings added where shared users can be limited to view-only access. The primary account holder should be the only one able to delete video footage. This would add an extra layer of security and peace of mind for shared accounts.

Thank you from a loyal user.

There are quite a few requests in here related to shared users, and you can add your vote.

Actually I’m a bit surprised that shared users are allowed to delete cloud clips (they can’t access the SD card at all so those are safe), but I guess it doesn’t surprise me, seems like the sharing feature did not get much attention when it was designed.

They’ll Never Do it. Don’t Buy Wyze. They will only blame all issues on the user and user network. Don’t waste your money. Buy something else.

While looking at this related post…

…and doing a quick search of this topic, it became apparent that there’s some overlap with an existing feature request that other topic:

Since this type of request could involve both permissions and Automations (schedule), those of you who have requested this feature in this topic[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] might want to take a look at that other one to comment and VOTE!

@zarakand, @Brian85, @KCB, @camogam, @romz169, @meaghanm08, @Markmoritz, @jayfrom805, @Mirdana (likely an incomplete list), and others, this means you! :grin:

Also, thanks to @Seapup for the tip about this topic! :+1:
