I have just connected a V4 camera located on our boat to our home WiFi at a distance of 400 metres (1300 feet).
Our home is 400m (measured by Google Earth) from the boat and about 15m (50 feet) above the boat (measured by GPS altimeter), being on a hill overlooking the marina.
Very large gum trees obstruct the view between the boat and home router, but in terms of “ground” the path is clear.
The V4 is connected to a TP-Link RE650 WiFi repeater at the house, under a carport facing the marina.
The V4 is at the front of the boat, against a window, inside the cabin, which is aluminium clad on the walls and roof. The front of the boat faces AWAY from the WiFi repeater, but there are large glass windows.
I am pleasantly surprised, to say the least.
The V4 was associated with the WiFi repeater at the house, before bringing it to the marina. It connected to the repeater immediately, quicker than my phone, which has to be cajoled.
Ookla speed tests run on my phone while at the marina, connected to the WiFi repeater, are a bit better than 3Mb/sec.
Maybe things will be less “rosy” in rainy conditions, when water on the gum leaves may attenuate the signal. Time will tell.
