I appreciate that a full redesign would be hefty, but the iPhone version of the app already supports the video in landscape, I can’t imagine it being difficult to bring that exact feature over to iPad as well as it’s already been built.
I don’t know what kind of a tablet you’re using but my iPad will display in landscape mode it’ll also display in portrait mode
The video feed will display in landscape, but not the home screen or menus. Ref. my screenshot below from the “App in need of serious redesign” thread. This distinction has been discussed in other threads. What is needed is full, app-wide landscape support for tablets.
No updates yet but it’s a direction we intend to go.
Need a option on a iPhone and iPad to view the app in landscape mode
My old Galaxy tab 4 does landscape for the camera stream (not the app) BUT, I don’t use it because
it cuts off part of the left and right on the image. Might not be an issue for some, but it’s a good solid 8% of the image I lose for viewing in landscape mode.
@WyzeGwendolyn It seems like all these basic design problems are a result of not having UX and UI experts on the team from the beginning.
We agree. That’s why a lot of the newer stuff has better designs. But back tracking through existing implementation is more tricky. We have to do some foundational work that wasn’t included when we first launched.
I don’t know the status is of this, but I also want the app to work in landscape mode as all other apps I have do. It is very cumbersome to move my iPad into portrait mode just to open and view the app. Hopefully this will be done soon. Thanks
I just upvoted this landscape feature request. Looking through the long history of this thread, I see it’s been a hot topic for over a year. At what point does your product owner prioritize this for the roadmap? Does Wyze have an agile development process with a backlog, sprints, epics, releases? Just looking for a sense of where it sits in your 2Q or 3Q planning.
Especially for extremely common UX/UI features like landscape mode.
They just committed $10 million to rewriting this app!
This is something we intend to add later. But it’s going to take a lot of reworking of the app due to how we implemented things when we were first starting out. We’ve learned a lot since then! But it also means that some projects take a lot of resources to implement because there’s some missing foundation. This is one of those projects.
Hi @WyzeGwendolyn!
Would really like to see this in the near future, both from a practicality and accessibility point of view.
If it requires a major rework in how the app is designed, I really hope these features are also considered during that redesign process:
Estimated time please. This lack of landscape view is a major shortfall.
I’m sorry, I don’t have a time estimate due to how large an undertaking this will be.
While I’d like to have the entire app support landscape mode (especially with the Band, Scale, Lock, Lock Gateway all adding many more items on my main screen), I’d be happy if I could just leave my tablet in landscape position, select the group of cameras I want to watch (from the list which would be sideways) and then have the camera group display come up in landscape mode. The app already supports landscape mode for the group camera display, so that wouldn’t take any redesign. You just need to add a check when opening the camera display to see if the tablet is already in landscape mode and if so, to start the display in landscape mode without me having to rotate to portrait mode and then back to landscape mode. That part should be very simple!
Thanks for letting me know! I’ll share this with the team. I’ve learned that some stuff is less simple than one would hope (or expect) when it comes to the dev work but I’ll make sure they can consider it.
Landscape mode for Android Tablets PLEASE!
