Wyze Video Doorbell Needs Unique Audio Notification

I went from the Ring app to the Wyze Doorbell expecting the same features. but not getting them. The camera is SO MUCH better, however the Ring app has 2 very important features the Wyze Doorbell does not. I am creating two separate wish list items for this.

  1. The Doorbell needs a unique sound notification like the Ring does. There is no difference between the Doorbell and any other notification so my text and message notifications are the same as my Doorbell. This is very annoying because I have my text and message notifications on a very soft sound so that I’m not disturbed throughout the day with constant sounds. However when my doorbell rings, or someone comes by the door I want to be made aware of this. Having a unique Doorbell Notification Sound would solve this issue.

I had the same problem, and all I did is to switch the ringtone in my iPhone to doorbell and solved the issue.

That’s great. Unfortunately that solution won’t work for me. I have an Android. The Doorbell only rings using the notification sound which in my case is a soft almost inaudible sound. I receive a LOT of notifications and I don’t want my doorbell sound going off all day. I just want to know when someone is ringing my doorbell.

Can we please get a different notification for the doorbell, so we can now the difference between a camera notification and the doorbell.

Change doorbell notification tone in app

Currently when a visitor presses the doorbell button outside, the notification chime on the app is the same notification chime as other apps; which is simply the Default notification chime. As a result, the notification often gets ignored.

I’d like to be able to change the notification tone for the doorbell to no longer use the device’s default tone, and instead use something more appropriate, like a doorbell sound on the device.

Hey everyone! I voted on and posted over at Different Alert Sound for Wyze Notifications and was referred over here by @Seapup for Wyze device level custom push notifications and tones.

I too am waiting for Wyze to develop App level custom notifications and tones (in development Wishlist topic above) and Wyze device level custom notifications and tones (this Wishlist topic, maybe later).

As a moderately acceptable workaround to get as close to these two wishlist items as possible until Wyze gets done wading thru the tall grass coding these, I have implemented the following:

  1. I have Android so I have changed my OS level notification sound setting for “WyzeMessage” (all Wyze push notifications) from the default to a custom mp3 sound I downloaded. That way, the Wyze push notification sound is unique from any other app. (Sorry iOS… Apple doesn’t allow you to do that without 3rd party app supervision)

  2. I have installed Free Notification Reader. Highly customizable. Free. Stable. When any Wyze notification comes in, I first hear my Wyze tone (#1 above) and then it audibly reads the text of the Wyze notification to me so I know exactly what Wyze device initiated the push and why: “Notification from Wyze, Person detected on Doorbell Cam at 1:15pm. Check out the event video.” Regardless of which devices I have set for notification, if it sends a push, FNR audibly tells me which device initiated that push AND why (example: which AI event tagged, open close sensor, leak sensor, climate Sensors temp\humidity, HMS armed\disarmed, alarm, Noonlight…you get the idea). The app can be used on ANY other app on your phone that sends push notifications, it will work on BT headsets, it reads my emails and text MMS\SMS to me when driving, can override DND by app, too many features to list.

Hope this helps at least one frustrated sole while we all wait in que for the doors to open. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks for the testimonial and stopgap solution. Going to grab that and play with it this weekend. :+1:

Just went to the app store to get a link… Not easy to find searching because it is actually listed as FNR Notifications Reader. Had to get it from my installed catalog.

Let me know if that link works. It is developed by Mario Pelissetto. PS> All the custom tweaks are in the Advanced Settings mode.

Custom Ringtones for Wyze camera

I tried to read through the Wish List concerning anything regarding my wish but haven’t seen anything since 2019 so here goes:

I wish that Wyze would allow their app to be able to select different Android or Apple (whichever type of cellphone you use) notification ringtones for each individual cameras. I am a Cam Plus subscriber and would be willing to pay a $1.00 more monthly to be able to do this.

My Mom have Ring cameras and their app let clients choose ringtones of the type of notification(s) they want. For example, her front porch floodlight camera, she was able to select “Chimes” ringtone notification and her back porch camera, she was able to select “Dogs barking” ringtone notification. Now granted, these certain ringtones were on Ring’s app but if Wyze could put an option on their app to allow us to choose any of “OUR” cellphone ringtones for each camera, just like you can select different ringtones for each person in your address book, this would be MARVELOUS!

An update that I also posted over on:

And see:

I have been experimenting with a couple 3rd party apps as a workaround. I am using both these apps currently in testing with great results. One of these is also posted above, sorry for the duplication.

I do not know if either of these have iOS counterparts as I am Androidian.

I originally used the app Free Notification Reader to force the phone to audibly speak my Wyze Notifications over the speaker or BT Headset. I could also customize the preamble to every notification to say ‘Alert’ or ‘Attention’ or whatever I wanted. Because of the Notification Tone being limited to one tone for all Wyze Notifications in the Android App Notification settings, I customized that to the Jetson’s tune although Free Notifications Reader can do that as well through the app.

Every time any of my 12 cams sends a notification, I would hear the Jetsons Tune followed by “Alert. Person Detected on camname Cam at 1:02pm. Check out the event video”. So, I audibly heard a) what was detected, b) what cam detected it and c) when. However, if this was on the phone speaker, it could get a bit annoying and wordy.

Another user in the forum introduced me to an app called MacroDroid. This app gives me the ability to set a custom notification sound for each and every one of my individual cams.

Setting up a macro for each cam was super easy. For my Garage Cam, I tell the macro to watch for any notification containing the words “Garage Cam” and to play a custom tone from my ringtone library when it comes in. Since the number of tones I have is limited by only the number I want to download, it is limitless. 100 cams = 100 tones. Or record your own. And, it isn’t limited to cams. Any notification from Wyze, so long as it states the device name, can be set for a custom tone. And that’s not all. It can trigger the phone to vibrate, flash the LED, open the app, send a SMS Text, send an email, send a tweet, trigger another app to do something, tons of action options (see the screenshot list below)

With these two apps working together, I have shut off my Android setting Jetson’s tone for Wyze notifications because the MacroDroid tone will play at the same time and they will walk on each other.

I have the Free Notifications Reader set to only read when my BT headset is connected (driving) so it only reads in my ear, not out loud on the speaker (although it would probably work on a BT car link, I don’t have that BC I prefer old beaters). It plays the MacroDroid device specific tone (not limited to cams… ANY Wyze device) then I have a 1 second delay set to read the notification on my BT headset so the tone stops first. When I am on phone speaker, all I hear is the MacroDroid set tone for whatever device triggered the notification (cam, contact sensor, motion sensor, leak detector, HMS alarm, Thermostat… ANY Wyze IoT device that can send a notification).

Here are links to the apps if you are interested. Free Notification Reader is free and without ads:

MacroDroid is has a free version limited to 5 macros with ads. Pro version is $5.99

Thank you for your suggestion BUT I am a paranoid person and really don’t trust 3 party apps and having to deal with setting them up. I would much prefer our Wyze app do much the same as Ring app does when it comes to notification ringtones especially since I am paying for the Cam Plus.

Thank you for this information on these 3rd party apps. I use another one called Shouter from the Google Store which works quite effectively and announces all notifications from my Wyze Cameras and also from other brand cameras like one I have in Smart Life, and includes in the announcement the name of the app making the announcement. It also announces events from my Wyze Door Lock. Example: “Notification from Wyze. It says Wyze Person detected on Front Door at 8:12 PM. Check out the Event Video.” (Of course that one sometimes produces a laugh when someone pops up and says something “How do they know whether the guy outside the door is wise or stupid?”

I see the value of this feature and advocated strongly for it, but when I discovered (from a post by tharn in another topic) that the functionality was readily available through a third party app, I stopped caring at all if Wyze introduced it natively. Even if Wyze did introduce this, I’m not sure I would use it as I am totally happy with Buzzkill managing my notifications across several apps. I can almost guarantee that, if Wyze introduced this natively, it would be an afterthought and would not be as robust or feature-rich an implementation as you can get from the various third party apps that provide this functionality as a core mission.

To those who refuse to use third party apps, well, while I respect your right to make that decision, your doing so immediately negates any sympathy I might have. The solution is there for the taking but you refuse it. You made your call.

BuzzKill you say? I’ll look into it

Great tip! Thank you - I will try it out! Might solve a problem I have with a long-winded daughter who breaks her thoughts up into about a dozen consecutive texts!

Set a different sound notificacion per device

I would like to request that Wyze let us set a different sound notification per device in the app. This way we dont need to see the notification and by just listening we can identify in which device happened exactly.

I was thinking it would be nice to have a separate Notification for person notification, or maybe vice versa, separate ai notification vs motion notification. This way I could assign a different ringtone to say person. A lot of times, I get so many notifications that say motion Or person I ignore a lot of them. The Person notification is pretty good and reliable. But the ringtone is the same, although the onscreen notification says person I don’t always look at my phone.
Thanks.

Antonio

[Mod Note]: Your request was moved to this topic for consistency in grouping similar requests. Your request deals with custom notifications at the device/AI-detection type level not custom notifications at the app level. Please remember to scroll up to the top and click the VOTE button.

@antoniovp, you have both iOS and Android listed as devices on your profile. Is your phone iOS or Android? Android phones can use 3rd party apps to do this.

Notification sound option in Wyze App

Hi All, if you are like me you are constantly getting notifications on the phone throughout the day. I noticed Wyze has no way to set custom notification sound. Sounds like an easy fix and it would sure be nice to differentiate a camera notification from others without having to pick up the phone every time.

distinct sound for door lock/unlock

Wish the notification (iphone) for the door locking/unlocking could be distinct. Now it is same as the many other notifications I get throughout the day. The same thing goes for my wyzecam I have monitoring my yard. That too would benefit from a special notification tone. My Ring doorbell has a distinct chime when it detects motion which is a nice alert. I wish I could distinguish my Wyze alerts in a similar way. Thanks
