I feed up to 18 squirrels on my back deck and my 4 cameras - all v4 - that cover the deck and back yard are constantly notifying of a pet. I have tried lowering the detection sensitivity for motion to 9 and then zero but they are still notifying of pets. I know I can just stop notifications but there are cats and the occasional hawk that make appearances trying to get the squirrels so I don’t want to shut the detection and notifications off completely as I would miss a cat or a hawk.
i know it’s the way of nature for squirrels to be supper for others but since I lured them to eat on deck I want to protect them as much as I can.
long post shortened - is there a way to stop the constant squirrel “pet” notifications and still have notifications of my dog when he comes to the door wanting in?
If the dog is the only thing you want alerted as “pet” you could get a cheap OG cam and aim it right at the door, and then turn off pet on the one looking out. I have an OG that is literally a “package detector” aimed downward from above my front door. That way I get no extra notifications but know as soon as a package is at the door.
Of course you could use a v4 or whatever you want for this too, would give a more consistent interface, just suggesting the OG as I know last year they went on sale for like $10 on black friday. But the v4s were pretty cheap too.
Your definition of PET might not meet others. And as such, I hand feed squirrels in my own yard and I can’t argue that they are my pets so this is one of those subjective arguments that falls in between our diffenent usage. This is one of the main reasons that my team amongst the community has attempted to get the company for years to argue that animals are animals and classify them as animals and or pets as defined as domesticated pets such as dogs or cats. But so far that has not been heated and until it is most animals outside of birds now with our smart detection is defined as pets. I hope that gives you some indication as to the forethought into what goes into this. Many would argue that the neighborhood cats that they feed but did not take care of on a day to day basis our pets, and that can go for numerous other animals including my friends out in the West that might classify bears as pets
I agree as to the dog and cat being called and identified as pets but I also agree other people’s definitions of pet may be a groundhog - which I have coming to porch to eat - or raccoons which I have 4 living under a small shed I have and yes I feed them too. But I myself don’t define them as pets. I would say they are animals. So we basically agree that others definitions of pets may differ from ours
Except for birds - I have sparrows that perch on cameras and they are identified as “person” which scared the hades out of me because one camera they use for a perch is right by my bedroom.
