@carverofchoice is an expert in this. I believe with the v1 you can even install native RTSP firmware which will make things pretty easy.

Thanks @dave27 I wouldn’t call myself an “expert” 😂 but I have done this and was able to figure out how to do these kind of things.

Step 1 is to get an RTSP on your camera(s). There are a few options to do this.

It sounds like you already tried Docker Wyze bridge. but aren’t getting it to connect for some reason.

You said you were having problems getting it to work. You do need to get a Wyze API key for it. Did you ever go here to get your API Key information?

Here are some instructions for getting that:

The first time I set up Docker Wyze Bridge, I was even running it directly on my Synology NAS (I’ve since moved it to a separate Mini-PC). I followed this youtube video to get it running on my Synology NAS:

[![](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/wyze/original/3X/e/f/ef7d589c4ae4049a4e21ca4cd19b414c0519e223.jpeg "Wyze RTSP Via Docker ! How to set it up on Synology - No Hacks Subscription or Firmware Required!") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFJyWpa1bo0)

I can’t remember if this video was made before or after Wyze required use of the API Key though. So there is a good chance you will have to figure out where to add the API Key and key ID info since I think this video came out half a year before the API Key stuff got added. I am not a big expert with Synology, even though I have one. I usually ask AI’s to help me configure stuff. That is what I did when I set it up on a new mini PC after I removed it from running on my Synology station.

I know that makes me not extremely helpful in exact instructions because I would just ask an AI to help me figure out where to enter the Key ID and API Key. that is almost definitely the reason your instance isn’t working.

I would generally recommend using ChatGPT’s “Code Copilot” GPT to help me with these things. Give it as much detail as you can. I suggest a prompt like this:

> [@](#):
>
> I have installed the Docker Wyze Bridge container on my Synology NAS (model: [Insert model], DSM version: [Insert version]), but it won’t login. I think I missed entering the Key ID and API Key into the container’s settings, and that’s why it won’t authenticate or connect.
>
> Please give me **numbered, step-by-step instructions** to check for me to be able to add the Key ID and API Key into the container settings so Docker Wyze Bridge will authenticate and start working correctly. Include steps for:
>
> 1. Accessing the container’s configuration on my Synology NAS.
> 2. Adding the Key ID and API Key.
> 3. Saving and restarting the container.
>
> If I have questions, I will then be able to reference the step number for more information or clarification or help on that step.
> If something still doesn’t work after following your instructions, please include basic troubleshooting steps to help me identify and fix the issue. I may also share screenshots of what I see on my screen to confirm what to select or enter if I don’t understand some of the fields showing up, so please explain the process in a way that matches the interface I might see on my Synology NAS.

I would use a prompt like that to get an AI (preferably Chat GPT, though Gemini Advanced has seemed to work reasonably well too). In some cases, I use multiple AI’s to double check that they agree that a suggestion/instruction is a good one.

Hence Why I am no expert. I’m just good at leveraging tools. 🙂

After you get Docker Wyze Bridge running, you can get a “Link” to the RTSP stream.
Open Synology’s Surveillance Station
Click on IP Camera
 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/wyze/original/3X/8/4/84818d1ce7825d4a7f8bc60274151f7f6c4eddab.png)

Then from there you can add the camera either by scanning for it or adding it manually with the RTSP link you got from Docker Wyze Bridge.

And people call me long winded 🤣

Believe me, not an insult in any way. Personally I think more, and more thorough information is valuable. I’m not sure if modern society has the attention span for us though…

Personally if I was going to do a home/closed circuit/NAS based solution I probably wouldn’t want to bother with custom firmware and the like and would just go with a native solution, but I can see the value in having a bunch of inexpensive cams going to a reasonably priced NAS (especially if you already have the NAS or a spare PC you can use for it).

With electricity going up and up and up, the main issue is with spinning drives (the most economical for large storage space) the cost of running the system goes up. But SSDs have come down a lot in price and over time would probably pay for the difference, as long as you don’t need like 18TB drives. With the wyze cams and their compression I’d think 1-2 TB would be far more than enough for a bunch of cams.

Recently set up a web server with streaming audio feed, nothing that had to be high performance or even terribly reliable. My 18 year old spare laptop that I use in my lab handled it pretty well but drew about 50 watts constantly. Neighbor had an old 4th gen 17 laptop they were going to throw away, fixed it up, even with that moderately old and fairly high powered processor, it is drawing 14 watts doing the same thing. If I invested in a brand new micro PC or even raspberry pi I could have it well under 10 but it would take many years to break even, so this works.

Yep. No offense taken. I have LONG had people tell me I write too much. 🙂 I don’t have any insecurities over it though. Some personalities have low attention spans and skip reading over things and that works for them. I think my affinity for being detail oriented has given me a huge advantage in life. Sometimes I make token efforts to accomodate the TLDR; people by breaking things up into Sections with titles or bullet points or bolding the most important parts, or collapsing entire sections into drop downs that are easy for those people to just get the short summary and skip all the rest, but still have more details for those care.

Usually I just be myself and don’t care if someone has a different preference and wants to skip reading what I wrote. It doesn’t hurt my feelings. 🙂

I can relate. There are plenty of things I think are a waste of my time that avoid in favor of other things too. No big deal. People are welcome to their preferences. I stopped worrying about trying to be a people pleaser long ago.

I support a sales team whose only attention span is “when am I going to get paid”. And I deal directly with customers who want concise info. So in my work life I have to edit and trim and rephrase a lot. In forums people get the full unabridged brain dump, it is sort of my “release” to counterbalance my work life.

I feel the same way, those willing to read get some good info (or I think so anyway), those who don’t, that’s their call.

I sometimes preface my really long ones with “TL;DR - if it is TL, then DR”.

Ha, that’s funny. I do sometimes post a TLDR; summary at the top too, but most of the time I just decide I don’t care if someone skips it. 🤷‍♂️ Like you said, sometimes my comment is a sort of “Release” in certain senses. I get something out of coming here and posting to take a break from work. Once I have decompressed a little, I can go back to working at 100% capacity again. So I get something out of it even when a few other people don’t.

Also, sometimes my answers are for the benefit of like-minded people or other observers or future people who come to the thread and not necessarily always for a single targeted individual who may not appreciate it, even if it’s the person I am technically “replying to”. No big deal to me, others do appreciate it and my comment was for those people, and even if _nobody_ appreciates it, it helped me recharge to go back to work at full capacity again. No-lose situation for me.

Hi. first of all thanks for the detailed reply.

1. i dont see docker anymore in synology NAS, only container manager. i guess its pretty mush the same.
2. i did get to the API key section and also provide succesfully the API KEY AND ID. but then it asks for username and password and when i enter it it re ask it all over again. and i did follow the youtube guide you provide.
3. about the firmware - which one should i download? my wyze firmware is: 4.10.9.3006

thanks

Yes, exactly the same.

I’m not sure why it’s not accepting your username and password since you entered the API key info and presumably your correct username and password. 🤔

As for which firmware to download if you want to go that route INSTEAD of using Docker Wyze Bridge, it kind of depends on you, but this firmware is the newest RTSP firmware directly from Wyze:

> [@carverofchoice](#):
>
> Pan - 4.29.4.51: [https://download.wyzecam.com/firmware/rtsp/demo\_4.29.4.51.bin](https://download.wyzecam.com/firmware/rtsp/demo_4.29.4.51.bin)

That might allow your camera to work with the Wyze app as well as to get an RTSP stream still too. But to be honest, I have never used the Wyze RTSP firmware. There have been a lot of Security updates since then. Some of the other firmware options will make your camera no longer work with the Wyze app, but will allow an RTSP stream, and they might be a little more difficult to do. Again, I don’t use special firmware, I mostly use Docker Wyze Bridge and sometimes Tiny Cam. but since those aren’t working for you, you could try one of the firmware options instead.

Here are instructions for flashing firmware in the Pan camera:

> **[How to flash your Wyze Cam firmware manually](https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031490871-How-to-flash-your-Wyze-Cam-firmware-manually#Accordion-wyze-cam-pan-v1-7:~:text=firmware%20flash%20your-,Wyze%20Cam%20Pan%20v1,-%3A)**
>
> Many Wyze Cam devices can be firmware flashed, which erases and replaces the firmware on the camera. This can help fix critical bugs, and force updates if necessary.
> Firmware flashing is not consid...

However, instruction step 4 and 5 are wrong…Instead of renaming the FOLDER and dragging the FOLDER to the SD card, you rename the .bin file and only copy that file to the SD card by itself, not the folder. Someone accidentally added that error into the instructions in June and nobody has fixed it yet.

Thanks, then YOU are among our favorite users @dave27 and I write for, 😉 and we don’t mind if other people don’t appreciate our voluminous, eloquently articulated, erudite, insightful, perspicacious, and sesquipedalian musings 😂 because we have some people like you in here too.

(Grammarly keeps telling me every week for years and years in a row that I use more unique words than 99% of all people, 😂 so I might as well keep up my 99% streak by adding some fun ones once in a while…it also complains about my long run on sentences and using lots of ellipses for years in a row, and I just have to keep that up now too)

The reason I joined this forum +two years ago was to learn about Wyze cameras and along the line I learned much more thanks to people like you two 🙇‍♂️

Maybe they used to use a username but these days your username is your email. When I briefly played with tinycam it was my email and password that I use to log in to Wyze. I wonder if it is an issue with the Wyze 2FA?

Yep. @dave27 is right that the email is the username.

I know 2FA used to interfere with some 3rd party logins, but I think the API Key/ID is supposed to bypass that if I remember correctly.

Who me? 😇

I would think if it pertains to me, I would be interested to read it. Otherwise, I just skip over it. Why read every word in a dictionary, if you are just looking for one.

I just think it is too bad there isn’t a better retrieval source like a document library or FAQ. Posts can become lost in the mix of daily life. You deserve better respect for your time and effort.

Yeah that makes sense, Microsoft calls them “app passwords” and others call them different things but essentially is just a device specific password to take the place of the 2FA challenge. Though MS has done away with them for the most part, it is now Oauth2 or nothing.

Ha ha, naw, no big deal my friend. I’m mostly joking around anyway. As you know from how I’ve long interacted positively with you even when you’ve playfully told me in the past I write too much, I really don’t get offended or mind or think less of anyone who doesn’t want to read my long comments. 👍

I think I’m adequately respected for my efforts. I’m not wanting or hoping for anything more, just musing in general.

You’re too kind. That is most appreciated. I use sarcasm for humor, but sometimes I push the envelope off of the table onto the floor.

I just wish those in power could create the “CarverOfChoice” Library so your literary works could be easily found and appreciated in one location, for future reference.

Thank you, C.
