Can you clarify, did you specifically try the “reset services” option in the cam settings? That’s the only thing that fixed it for me last time and it seems to be fixing it for others this time. Restarting cams and phone did not fix it for me last time, only the services reset.
Seems like @Zamboknee has the same problem as me - i.e. caused by sharing!
Yeah that’s odd, curious if others with the issue have shared cams or if that’s just coincidence. I don’t have any shared cams and I had the issue last time, but not this time. Of course that doesn’t necessarily confirm anything.
It seems to be something between the app any wyze servers so it could just be that shared accounts are just as likely to be affected as others. Who knows. Not sure if shared users can even do “reset services”. I’m guessing not. Though if the owner does it, it may fix it for the shared people too.
Last time they found the issue on the wyze end and fixed it so I’m assuming they’ll do the same with this one and not everyone will have to reset services (sounds like you tried that and it didn’t work for the shared users).
Yes. I used ‘reset services’
Hi @Dave27
The shared user:
- Can
- See Event images (from Cloud)
- I do not have Cam Unlimited but assume that Cloud recordings can be viewed.
- Turn Camera On/Off
- Take Photo
- Record
- Turn Light On/Off
- Cannot
- View SD Card recordings
- Change Settings, Reset, Restart - This is the screen if ‘Gear Wheel’ is selected
Originally, I used my account to sign in on all 3 devices. I set up sharing to see if it would resolve the ‘Device Offline’ issue with my WYZE Thermostat. It didn’t, but I never changed back.
If the notification issue keeps re-occurring, I’ll go back to using my account to sign in on all 3 devices.
Yeah shared accounts are very limited, if there’s no concern with security, just using the main login is best.
There are some unexpected things that shared users can do, but I couldn’t remember if they had reset services or not (but assumed not).
That’s probably what it needs but if there is no way to do it, guess have to wait until Wyze figures it out on the back end.
That’s an interesting observation, and at first I wondered if they did something funky on the back end that’s affecting shared-access users in the new app that dropped today:
But then I remembered you wrote this:
Apparently those aren’t (yet?) included with this new feature:
That still makes me wonder about a funky server-side thing, though, like maybe they’re prepping to include shared-access user notification control for Cam OG (and other Cams based on that platform) in a future update and got a wire crossed somewhere? ![]()
I dunno. It’s a weird one.
As I was reading through this, I wondered why you were using two different accounts on your devices. Thank you for clearing that up. (I was really thinking, “Why would someone do that? Just testing or what?!”) ![]()
Hi @Crease
Thanks for the info.
Notifications are still appearing today on my devices with shared cameras.
Based on above plus your other comments it appears that WYZE are focusing development on new cameras and sharing can’t be trusted anymore on my old OGs.
I’ve gone back to signing into WYZE App on all devices with my account and deleted sharing permissions.
It’s largely speculation, but I think the timing fits.
After reading this and a seemingly related topic last night, I went through a bunch of my Cams and did this exercise:
- Navigate to Settings ➜ Reset. I also did a Restart after that for good measure.
- Confirm live stream connection.
- Tap Settings ➜ Event Recording ➜ All Events ➜ Customize Detections.
- Deselect Other Motion and/or Other Sounds in the “NOTIFY” column.
- Return to the previous screen.
- Tap Smart Detection Events ➜ Customize Recordings.
- Confirm my desired selections for “NOTIFY”.
Part of the issue I was experiencing is that I was receiving “Complete Motion Detected” notifications when I wasn’t expecting those (I’m using a subscription), and I had to turn off “Other Motion” because I want notifications only for specific kinds of events. I had also just changed subscriptions around this same time, so that may have been an additional factor in my own experience, but that’s also speculation on my part.
Looks like this notification issue is still affecting some of the cameras and we are currently looking into it.
Any updates on this?
FWIW, for me this is only happening to shared users on both a Pan v4 and Duo Doorbell models. (Not to imply it may not be happening on other models, just confirming what I have that it is happening on.)
Temporarily enabling All Motion recording in order to toggle off the Other Motion notification option and back has not been consistent for me. And of course because of the way the app masks the “Other Motion” option when you toggle back to Smart Detection Events in Event Recording settings there is no way to see if the Other Motion notification really remains off or not. (I suspect it isn’t which is why all of this is happening right now. I suspect this because when you toggle back from All Events to Smart Detection and then back again, the unmasked Other Motion notification option is magically enabled again. Maybe the app code is doing this but maybe not? I don’t know. But other options have been known to “stick” when you toggle back and forth so it’s curious.)
So the only work around that I believe works (actively testing), is to leave All Motion Event Recording enabled and Other Motion Notifications off. Which of course is generating tons of more recordings I don’t need but I feel that’s a burden for Wyze’s systems that they caused.
UPDATE: I’ve received reports from my shared users that this workaround has not stopped all “complete motion” notifications. I’m now trying to combine this with a Reset and Reboot of the cams to see if that works but it would appear that the app is ignoring all notification settings from the primary user to shared users and sending “complete motion” notifications no matter what. The only other possibility may be to use the latest release feature where shared users can disable notifications for a particular cam (enabled/disabled only) but what a PitA.
UPDATE 2: Reset and reboot did not help. (Yes, all of the workaround settings were re-established after the reset. It’s just not stopping “complete motion” notifications to shared users.)
I don’t have a solution to your particular problem, and I haven’t yet tested any shared-access user notification control in the latest production app, but I do want to respond to a couple of things:
I believe that’s correct. At least that’s what I think I’ve observed in my experience, as I’ve commented elsewhere. That’s why I’m careful to make a distinction when referring to Customize Detections (for All Events) versus Customize Recordings (for Smart Detection Events), and it’s why after I uncheck Other Motion/Other Sound on the Customize Detections screen after selecting All Events, I avoid selecting All Events again once I’ve switched back to Smart Detection Events. I do think that selecting All Events will automatically check the “NOTIFY” column for the “Other” types.
It’s annoying, and I wish Wyze would clean this up in the UI and make what’s happening more transparent to the user, but that’s how I’ve been dealing with that particular problem for a while whenever I’ve experienced that.
Regarding the “strikethru”, you can do that here a few different ways. (Click to expand if interested.)
Use actual HTML <s> and </s> tags:
Use ~~:
Use HTML <del>/</del> and <ins>/</ins>:
Note that I’m using the standard Markdown editor to compose, and any user[1] can toggle between that and the rich text editor by using the Ctrl + M keyboard shortcut or by clicking the toggle in the composer toolbar:
⇄ ![]()
I just wanted to toss that out there in case someone’s interested in writing that sort of thing in the future.
Maybe not in a mobile browser! ↩︎
(Regarding strikethru…)
Thanks for that tip!
I’ve got the recent / new thread about the cameras sending notifications (that shouldn’t be), and this has been an issue for as long as I can remember for me. I have a schedule for reboots for all the cameras every night (have for a very long time), it still doesn’t help.
I know I ended up removing all of my Wyze lamp sockets at both houses as they just ignored schedules as well. So it’s not just notifications that seem to ignore notifications. In the history things seem to indicate they happen, but they aren’t actually happening clearly.
What do you mean by ignoring notifications? You aren’t getting them, or you’re getting them when you shouldn’t be?
If you aren’t getting them, there is a thread in the “tips and tricks” on how to set your phone to not sleep the app, that’s the only way I can get consistent notifications. My notifications on/off schedules are very reliable even without that though.
One thing I’ve noticed is that I have one cam that is on the very fringe of my wifi and on nights with lots of interference, when I had an automation on that one it was not reliable. Sometimes the automation would run, but the reverse would not run (like turn on spotlight for 1 minute would leave it on forever) or sometimes it would not run at all. So if you’re finding automations are not working well, may be worth looking into your connectivity. They seem very sensitive, even though the cam could live stream fairly smooth, it seems the automation will not retry or wait for the cam to respond, it just gives up. Automations, at least most of them, seem to be stored on wyze servers and sent from there, not locally in the cam, so they rely on connectivity.
No, that should have been receiving notifications when they are supposedly turned off.
I know signal is Wyze’s go to, however all mine show a strong signal, and they should as I have two Unifi E7s in a 1000 sq ft ranch house. Cameras are rarely more than 10 - 15 ft away from an enterprise access point, that is connected directly to all 10G networking.
At my mom’s house sure as she has a more traditional wifi setup, so I’d be more apt to fault a signal issue, but it doesn’t explain why mine has never worked either. Nor why devices seemly do what they want at random. Set a lamp socket to turn off / on at sunrise / sunset, they can come on in the middle of the day. Turn off notifications, they stop for 30 minutes, then start again. Or stop for every device, but one, even though it’s on the list of devices to stop notifications from.
Also note, I’m just trying to point out there is definitely still something buggy going on in the background.
Still not clear - they should NOT be receiving notifications if they are turned off.
Two E7s in 1000 sq ft is WAY overkill and may be causing you problems. Bear in mind signal strength is not the only thing that matters, signal quality (SNR) and available bandwidth also matters. Granted with those APs neither of those is probably an issue but I think more likely you’ve got too much overlap of your two APs.
In addition to wifi, your internet comes into play too, router could be blocking something, ISP could be blocking or having issues, etc.
But still not clear what the problem is, do you have automations that aren’t running properly, or are you shutting off notifications but they still come through? Do you have any shared users? One of the dirty secrets with shared users is they can create a rule to enable and disable notifications, which will affect your account but you won’t see the automation anywhere.
Cam plus subscriber getting notifications for my doorbell camera for AI events even though the notifications for those are turned off. The AI events are also false, no vehicle or package is present but I get nonstop notices of both things.
I’m getting notifications from the camera that I have notifications turned off
I turned off one cameras notifications and I still getting notifications. Wyze … fix your software .
