I could not agree more, and I said as much when I saw the “QR calibration” steps (and every time I have to redo them because the controller “forgets” its calibration).
The controller just needs the user to tell it the initial state of the door. After that, it knows when the door opens or closes, and it can toggle an internal boolean variable whenever the door opens/closes.
Even in the worst case, the camera does not need “AI” to determine if the door is open or closed. It just needs to compare the current image with a picture of the open door and a picture of the closed door. Whichever one is a better match is the state of the door.
Hi,
I’m having issues with Garage Door Controller Status. After the install 2 months ago everything worked which included open closed. Seems like a small detail however, now I have to open the camera to see if the door is open or closed not relying on previous camera shot. Nothing has changed and yes I worked through everything in the troubleshooting. The system works to open and close, camera see the QR code, power cycled, WiFi signal good, day or night, garage lights on off, same issue.
I like to solve problems so I will find it even though it almost works right.
Yup, that happens occasionally–the GDC just forgets how to read the QR code. You have to start the calibration again. I’ve had success just canceling the calibration without actually opening/closing the door and it works again, but you might have to go all the way through the process.
I had a similar issue after setting it up and agree that failure to read the QR will cause this behavior - especially if you have any scheduled events like “Close door at night”. If it can’t read QR code it will toggle door twice. That means if your door is open, it will close it, fail to determine if door is closed and then open it back up. If you look at the live view and it doesn’t show a red rectangle around the QR placard, then recalibrate. It would be nice if the screen showed the door open/close status.
A few other related tips. I had my setup on a large commercial door on my 30x50’ pole barn. The camera is attached to the opener which is 12’ up and probably 20’ from door. I had the QR placard about 6’ up and right next to the metal trip of the door. I moved the QR placard up to about 9’ and put it in an open area of the door away from any trim pieces. It seems like the camera can locate the QR placard better.
I do think the QR placard should be about twice the size that it currently is so that it works better with commercial doors where the distance between the camera is further away from the placard.
Funny, the condecention isn’t really worth responding to. Yes, when installed it worked for roughly a month.
Then the app asked for calibration. After the calibration, the system worked however it doesn’t show the
position of the door correctly, APP STATES DOOR IS OPEN when it’s closed.
What’s hard to understand about that as I described.
If you’re referring to my comment it wasn’t meant to be condescending at all. This is coming from a person that hasn’t had any issues since shortly after initial set up. The first day I had the issue you speak of but a couple tweaks and an update to the app resolved all that and I’ve had zero issue since. Actaully, it’s my best operating Wyze product I have!
Yes, they are referring to your comment, which was obviously condescending. Congratulations on having the one garage-door controller that does not experience issues (other than the ones you said you had when you first set it up). It is not helpful to the other people in this thread who are having issues for you to chime in and say, “What’s the big deal. You set it up and your [sic] done.” Clearly, everyone here has “set it up” and they’re not “done” … because it continues to fail.
If you would like to be helpful, please describe the “couple tweaks and an update to the app” that you made which “resolved all that.” The customers having issues might benefit from knowing what those mysterious “tweaks” are. (I’m sure they have all updated the app to the latest version already.)
Hello all, i just bought a garage door controller with v3 camera as a bundle and was having the same issue as some of you. After reading tons of threads, then here i found the answer and seemed to be working, but as few others have mentioned, after a few days, it stopped working again, so i am going to keep my eyes on ithis.
What i figured out on this is that the instruction doesn’t specifically make it clear that the camera has to be 3-15 ft away from the QR sticker and must have some type of light to read it. I ended up relocating the controller and camera closer, and it seems to work fine now.
This is my first with Wyze products, been happy with them, but seems settings are all over the place. Regardless, i am liking Wyze so far. Will be upgrading my door bell to Wyze next.
Thanks to those that provided good information on some of the fixes. Much appreciated!
