Friendly Faces automation is slow

I have an automation set that when my doorbell cam v2 detects a friendly face from my family, it unlocks the dead bolt v2. I love the feature however I am standing there for 15 seconds give or take. It’s a great feature especially when your hands are full. it makes opening the door easier removing a step. It’s just slow. Is there a way to speed it up? Will it get better with practice? Is it my Wifi’s fault? I have Wifi 7. I thought that was pretty quick. Any input?

I haven’t tried this, but @carverofchoice recently commented in another topic about setting this up with Duo Cam Doorbell and Palm Lock and indicated that it took “a couple of seconds”:

I haven’t ever enabled Friendly Faces, so I can’t speak directly to how quickly it activates, but I wouldn’t imagine there would be a significant performance difference between the device pair you’re using (Video Doorbell v2 and Lock Bolt v2) and the device pair described in the other topic (Duo Cam Doorbell and Palm Lock) if they were all operating under the same network conditions.

I wouldn’t expect the use of a Wi-Fi 7 capable router alone to improve the performance of these devices, which are operating in the 2.4 GHz band (at least not a significant improvement over using older Wi-Fi standards with these same devices). There might be some things you could do to optimize your network, but I’m not the best person to ask about that.

The Help Center would indicate so:

Friendly Faces takes time to start recognizing faces consistently and accurately.

I wonder also about the lighting conditions where you’re trying to use this thing. I recall another topic where lighting seemed to be an issue for your Video Doorbell v2, and I don’t know what the situation is when you’re trying to use Friendly Faces to unlock the door, but I’d think this probably operates best when there’s plenty of light on the face.

I don’t know if being in Canada would relate to any delay or not, but I do occasionally experience significant delays with some Wyze Automations. Just recently I was seeing that some Shortcuts (turning Bulbs and Plugs on/off) wouldn’t actually execute until ~2½ minutes after I tapped them in the app. I think that particular issue has largely been resolved at this point, but there does seem to be some sporadic variability to how quickly Automations trigger.

Thank you for the response. Wifi 7 actually handles traffic across all frequencies of wifi more efficiently. It’s a big can of worms to get into but you said something that made me realize something. Where you quoted the user who said “I had to wait a couple of seconds for the cloud AI to recognize that it was my face and then send trigger condition back to the Palm lock to unlock.” I got to thinking it’s probably just my internet as a whole. I have 5G, not like 5ghz in your router but 5G like in your cellphone. I have a wireless modem that connects to the cellphone network via 4G/5G/LTE. My router requires a sim card and a power cord. That’s it. So that being said I believe it’s simply my internet service. Hopefully it gets better with time as my modem calls up the cloud and the AI machine gets used to recognizing my mug.

Also you are right about me saying something about lighting and my doorbell. It was pertaining to the color night vision feature. I wasn’t getting that great of an image at night in that mode due to not having enough ambient light in my yard at night. I have motion activated floods that light me up really well when I’m entering/exiting. They’re actually only a couple feet directly above my doorbell. I’ve actually only used the Friendly faces feature to unlock my Lock Bolt V2 twice at night since getting it a week ago now. It’s predominately during daylight hours that I’ve been using it. It works every time, just takes roughly 15 seconds. I did have a few very quick (5 seconds maybe) unlocks which I feel are totally acceptable. Even at 15 seconds I’m ok with it. Really I posted this question out of curiosity and not necessity.

Again thank you for responding so quickly and I hope you are having a great week. Also Happy belated 250th from a Canadian up north who is proud to have the USA as our neighbour. Chears.

That’s what I was thinking when I read your original post, that your issue might be related to your LAN-to-Internet connection, and that the presence of Wi-Fi 7 is less of a factor here because the Video Doorbell v2 is still constrained by its use of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and older protocols.

I think that’s probably correct, and I don’t know what you can do with your ISP to improve that.

That’s good to know that you’ve had better performance at times, and that response variability is something else that I think would indicate an overall Internet connection issue, as in that’s likely where your bottleneck is.

Thank you for the kind words! I wish you the best with this, too!
