I can’t even find my unread section anymore. Something changed and I don’t know how to get It back to how it used to be.
I’ve been seeing this lately too. Like you said, it doesn’t happen every time. Sometimes I can do something to make it show up like refresh or something, but sometimes that doesn’t do either. Sometimes I think someone liked the post then unliked it, but then later it shows up as likely just like the original notification said even though there isn’t a new notification for it. Just weird because it never did that until recently.
Hmm, well maybe there are some general weird glitches going on recently. I’ll keep an eye out for more.
I don’t know if someone finally figured this issue out or if it was me who fixed it for myself, but it’s fixed for me finally and I magically have 5,000 unread threads to get through back to Jan 2018.
I wonder what the issue was or if I just fixed it myself. Last night I decided to go into my preferences, Tracking section, and any category that wasn’t already in the Watched or watching first post section I added the rest to “Tracked” and saved it. It didn’t seem to make any difference last night, but I thought maybe it would start making a difference for new threads from now on. And now tonight I was finally able to see more threads listed in the “Unread” filter which I wasn’t previously able to do, but they weren’t all showing up in the “Latest” sidebar here as unread messages:
But I sorted the Activity field to show the oldest ones up top and then it updated to over 5,000 unread next to the “Latest” sidebar. I started going through them now so it’s under 5,000, but WOW.
I don’t know what the glitch was that caused me to miss over 5,000 threads and even more posts over the last few years, but that’s crazy considering I’ve still read the 5th most number of posts in the last year:
And viewed the second most number of Topics in the last year:
So, even though I’ve been unknowingly missing a ton of posts in the last several years, I assume I’m just the only one who noticed this glitch and it’s likely been happening to a lot of other people too, and people just don’t realize which posts they aren’t seeing because they don’t see them.
Unrelated to the issue, but apparently I am the forum’s all-time biggest spammer with 15.1K replies:
Anyway, I think it’s interesting that there is apparently a glitch that is hiding some threads from showing up in the “Unread” filter category and the sidebar badge counts for some reason. I seem to have found a way to get them all to show back up in those places though by making sure to tell it to “Track” every post of every category, so I guess that’s a reasonable workaround.
It might take me a while to break through those 5K posts that were hidden from me in the last 6 years though. I almost definitely will just skim or skip through most of them just to get the old ones marked off from still showing as unread.
I guess this probably won’t apply to many people (or that many will care), but thought I’d mention it just in case the glitch does come up for anyone else in the future.
Edit: Guess it’s not fully fixed. the number keeps going up even as I read more threads and Unread messages no longer go back to Jan 2018, it’s now only back to April 2018, so as it adds more to my list, the farthest back keeps updating to a nearer date instead of a farther date. Kind of weird. It’s like Unread messages only supports sorting up to 5000 at a time or something.
Update: Yeah, absolutely not fixed…There are at least 8 unread topics just for today that still show up in “Latest” but won’t show up in “Unread” so weird. I got over 5000 new ones to show up as unread, but it’s still skipping over a lot of others. Oh well. Not sure what more can be done.
The platform for sure has some funky behavior that I can’t explain. For instance, I have Captured on Wyze in my Tracking ➜ Categories ➜ Watching First Post and occasionally will see a related notification which makes me think that a topic in that category is new, and I’ll think it’s new if I’m not paying attention when I click into it. While these topics are definitely new to me, I find if I look at the dates that some of them go back to 2018, 2019….
I guess that saves me from commenting on particularly old posts, though I still like that I’m learning and seeing new things and drop a now and then.
That is the result of me occasionally moving an old misplaced topic to Captured on Wyze and maintaining the topic’s datetime stamp.
I wondered about that in at least some of the cases because of s you give.
