Forum Operations Feedback Thread

This is the only reason I don’t use Dark mode anymore (I used to). I strongly prefer dark mode, but I was missing a lot of features, so I gave in to Wyze theme in the blinding light mode. :sob: Would be nice to someday get a Wyze Theme Dark mode that mimics the Wyze theme but still have Dark mode.

Maybe since so much has changed over the last year or 2, I’ll try it again for a while and see if I still miss the other stuff.

What about Wyze Theme + Dark Reader? That’s not too bad (I’m actually trying it again right now), though I actually like the regular Dark theme (with Dark Reader turned off for the Forum). Sometimes the fonts in Wyze Theme look funky to me, regardless of browser, and using regular Dark theme is generally easier for me to read.

I used to use Dark Reader! I still have it installed. I can’t remember why I stopped using it. I think it interfered with too many things, or maybe it was killing my resources or something. I honestly don’t remember the details. I may have to try it again though. I’m going to give Darkmode a chance again for a while. Let me know what you think of the Wyze Theme + Dark Reader combo. I will probably try that next. I have 4 monitors and I work a lot at night, so too much light mode just kills me.

I already switched back to Dark theme after a few minutes. (That experiment didn’t last very long.)

I haven’t tried digging into the underlying style sheets to see what’s going on, but something about the fonts (especially certain things like exclamation points and commas) just doesn’t seem very crisp with Wyze Theme, at least as I’ve used it. Dark theme for me is just simpler and neater and easier to read.

I agree. Light mode is like reading the wattage information on a bright lightbulb for multiple hours.

I used the Chrome flags to force dark mode but had issues.

I am interested in Dark Reader.

Odd, today I saw the links re-appearing occasionally. Still in Dark theme. I did undo settings, save, return settings and save again.

I’ve been seeing those at the bottom—below the Suggested/Related tabs, as I noted earlier—pretty consistently. What I wonder now is whether it’s possible that you’ve read everything in a category that isn’t showing you those links, since you’ve reported seeing it sporadically. Maybe sometimes the links aren’t there because Discourse has nothing new to suggest (because it wouldn’t be unread or new to you)? :man_shrugging:

Maybe you’re just beating the system. Call it a win?

No. I tried fresh today. There are new items to see but no links. Definitely a change on all six devices. Oh well. I will survive

Two things:

:one: First of all, thank you, @Loki, for installing the Discourse Icon theme component! Now I can write instructions like…

From the **[wrap=icon id=house][/wrap] Home** screen, tap to select your camera, and then tap **[wrap=icon id=gear][/wrap] Settings ➜ Advanced Settings ➜ Camera Status Light ➜** toggle **[wrap=icon id=toggle-on][/wrap] (on)** to **[wrap=icon id=toggle-off][/wrap] (off)**.

…to get…

From the Home screen, tap to select your camera, and then tap Settings ➜ Advanced Settings ➜ Camera Status Light ➜ toggle (on) to (off).

:two: Second, should we have a chime-controller tag? Although the new Wi-Fi Chime is not yet available for separate purchase, we already have a wi-fi-chime tag, but the Chime Controller is actually available as an accessory purchase now, and other accessories, like outdoor-power-adapter, already have their own tags. Since the Chime Controller is sold separately and can be used with at least two different doorbell models (so far), and since at least some doorbell problems described in the Forum are specific to wiring the Chime Controller itself, would adding such a tag help with categorization?

You’re welcome, and chime-controller tag has been added.

Does the forum reponse time seem sluggish today?

November 17th, 2024.

Never noticed this before.

Tested with three devices.

I’m not sure what you mean or what you’re seeing. I’ve noticed a few glitchy UI things (like when I have a notification of a new but don’t see that when I click into the post/topic), but the platform seems to be operating as expected for me (in two different browsers on the same machine) and the Discourse status page doesn’t indicate any current problems. :man_shrugging:

Thanks. Refresh is slower than normal. Posting images takes a manual refresh. If no one else has issues, I am fine.

FWIW, I’m on mobile now (checking away from home), and it seems normal here, too.

All is swell once again, with no changes on my side. Consider issue resolved by magic or what is known as FM.

The visual helps. I don’t ever recall seeing those missing on my end. :man_shrugging:

No static at all…?

I don’t know why, but after I got through all the notifications and unread messages in my home page or https://forums.wyze.com/unread saying I had no unread messages, then I went to “Latest” and found several dozen threads/posts showing that I hadn’t read them yet (showed up in bold vs light grey as you can see here:

I confirmed the bold ones all had lots of posts I never saw. There were dozens and dozens of them but my Unread section said there weren’t any unread posts.

I admit there is a small chance one of my cats button smashed my keyboard and cleared all the notifications, but I don’t think they did in this case, so I wanted to post that here in case anyone else can replicate that.

Dang, it’s not the cats. Still happening a lot. I can’t figure out why so many unread messages aren’t showing up in the unread section. Is this really not happening to anyone else? Or maybe it’s just that nobody else noticed?

Anyone have any ideas? I went through all my settings and they seem to be okay.

I have no topics set to be muted.

I do have 2 users “Ignored” and a couple more “Muted” but the ignored users haven’t posted a while and I actually still see the muted people’s posts fine (their posts will still show up in the unread posts section like they should).
I tried switching between Dark Theme and Wyze Theme, but the same posts were still not showing up.

It’s almost like something is automatically selecting “Dismiss all” for a bunch of the posts but it’s not happening to ALL the posts. I still have some show up in notifications and Unread, but there are also just a bunch of topics that don’t show up as unread when they actually are unread and are highlighted differently so the forum even knows I haven’t read them, but they don’t show up as unread in the sidebar badge counts or the unread link. So I checked a few thinking maybe some threads got muted, but they’re all showing as normal, not muted.

As far as I can tell, this has been happening for at least a month because several of the unread threads had new posts back to the end of October.

I guess I’m the only one this is happening to? If anyone else checks and notices the same thing, let us know.

Either way, if it seems like I’m ignoring anyone in threads, etc…it’s probably just that the forum is semi-hiding a bunch of stuff from me and I don’t know about some posts unless someone tags me or replies to something else I said in that thread in some cases. It’s just so weird that some of the unread posts aren’t properly showing up as unread. I’ll keep an eye out and see if I can figure out any kind of pattern. Maybe I need to clear the cache from my browser, etc. though it is happening on the whole account, not just a single device, but I guess it couldn’t hurt anyway.

Edit: WOW I went back as far as May of this year and there are still TONS of these back that far. A bunch of unread messages every single day for months! And here I was thinking I read every single post in the forums all year long. I wonder why so many aren’t showing up in my Unread section.

I don’t imagine that would hurt anything, but I don’t think that will solve the problem, either. I haven’t experienced your specific issue, but I’ve seen other glitchy Discourse behavior recently, like seeing an unread notification of a but then when I click on the notification and the browser navigates to that specific post, it isn’t actually showing the on the post unless I click the . It doesn’t happen every time, but it seems to be happening more frequently.

Also, I tend to use the Forum differently than you, mostly having my tracking preferences set for the kinds of categories and topics I want to watch and be notified about and especially using tags for products I actually own (where I feel I can be most helpful). Because of that, I’m not doing the same things you are that would replicate your experience.

I do think it’s been glitching from time to time, though, as @ssummerlin noted with the absent links that he likes to use at the bottoms of topics.
