Explain your ‘handle’

Thanks for the nudge on customizing my profile picture. I am noticing more Wyze forum members with various colors of “S”. On other forums I use pictures of my Golden Retriever as my profile pic. He is 8 years old now, but here I am using a picture of when he was a puppy.

I bought a new Telecaster thinline back around 1972 or 73.

Nice, I gotcha now. :+1:

It seemed like there were other Steves with the Name-initial/Number convention

eg @stephen7

and I was getting confoo…

Retired resident mechanic.

The Miata was a cute car that would fold up in an accident.

Never was a fan of Mazda.

My top three choices :

  1. Toyota/Lexus (except the FJ Cruiser because we know what the FJ means)

  2. Honda/Acura

  3. Nissan

Vehicles I would sell if they were given to me :

Anything European (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Land Rover)

I am not a car nut. Perhaps because I worked on them they became a tool rather than a hobby.

Hey Tom!

That’s ok, it’s just a two-seater and @ashtonwalky and @StevenA are still happy zooming around.

Makes sense, I could see that.

Do you consider yourself a bird nut or lover?

I do not deny that claim in anyway. I am fully aware that I am likely to die in that car, and I am completely okay with that. I hope it won’t be for a very long time, but dying while doing what I love is okay with me. I don’t push the car or myself past the limit of unsafe and try to be as aware of other drivers as possible. I want to enjoy the car for as long as possible and take precautions to do so.

That’s a shame. They make some cars that are really enjoyable to drive. My daily is a 2020 Mazda CX-30 which has been a wonderful vehicle so far.

I completely understand that. As a pool guy, it’s rare to see me in a pool and enjoying it.

I consider myself a car nut. I never was a professional mechanic but I learned to work on all my vehicles from my younger muscle car days.

I am a big believer in Toyota safety. My wife totaled 2 Camrys and my daughter rolled a Scion XD. I believe Toyota safety saved their lives. This story from a couple of years ago (not my family) sticks with me. A Toyota Avalon was going the wrong way on the freeway and hit a semi head-on. Both people in the Avalon were NOT wearing seat belts and nobody died. Check out the pictures at the beginning of this link.

Number 1 for me.

Honda 1884 to 2003
Acura 2003 to a 2023.

Never owned a Toyota but at one point I considered getting FJ Cruiser. Care to elaborate on the FJ meaning and why would you stay away from it?

I had 2005 CRV. I put over half a million kilometres until my daughter busted the front end. Wasn’t worth fixing it. Scrap yard gave me $700 because it had the original cat converter.

They’re not what they used to be especially the Rogue with the CVT tranny.

Yikes.

Get a real car, I already have a truck.

This is my 2006 Tacoma after getting rear ended on the freeway at 68 MPH and getting pushed into the concrete K rail sending me down the rail backwards 500 feet. The CHP officer said it must have been an exciting ride.
The Airbag burned a big patch of my arm, still have the scar.

Yikes. You’re a tough old :rooster: .

Correct on the OLD part. That exciting ride was 13 years ago. :astonished:

About the same time I was still…

I’m a little squishy these days…

(I’m bragging, it was between 15-20. )

FYI

Changing ‘handle’ / ‘user name’

I repaired many vehicles, and the FJ seems like it was built by a different manufacturer.

Example a co-worker had to replace the evaporator core in a FJ. This is what the dash looked like after the 2 day surgery

A view of the carcass.

The brakes are a different design than most Toyotas.

It’s been a few years so my memory is faded, but I do remember no one at the shop cared for them.

@TomG Are you a good passenger (so long as the driver is competent?)

I like sitting shotgun and being driven around. ‘I like to watch.’

From the time my wife and I met back in 1980, I did all the driving. Now that I am retired, I told my wife it is her turn. She prefers to drive but lately she doesn’t look where she is driving. Her peripheral vision is shot. I am a back seat driver riding shotgun. If and when we have to buy a newer vehicle, it must have all the driver assistance stuff like blind spot detection and lane keeping.
