I tried and returned the duo early on when I had way too many issues to be worthy of release. What’s going on with it now?
What kind of issues are people having with it?
Worth trying again?

I don’t have a Duo Cam Doorbell, but I recall reading about a lot of different problems people were having with that one for a while after it launched, and the sense I’ve gotten from spending time in the Forum is that a lot of those issues have been remediated with app and firmware updates. I think @fmills1d is still using two of them, so maybe the @mention will elicit some hands-on feedback for you.
I’ve had one since they first came out. I have it wired and really have had no issues with it. I get notifications fairly quickly and the 2 cameras are great for seeing packages.
My Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell has not experience any issues since I installed it about a month ago.
It charges with no issues and stays fully charged. It uses the Wyze Wi-Fi Chime.
It was goofy when released.
They patched it.
Works great now. 100% recommend.
As noted by @Crease, I do have 2 duos in operation and they are performing quite well. The only issue I have experienced recently is the need to occasionally have to perform a restart on 1 of them to get livestream. The other does not have the issue. Maybe one day I’ll delete and reinstall it to see if the issue is corrected. Push notifications and Alexa announcements work great. Both duos are wired and have chime controllers installed for original mechanical chimes.
Thanks for the replies. I’m still not sure there’s any beating Nest’s person recognition, But google raising the price for Nest Aware is the last straw. It’s just too much. Glad to hear the duo is doing better. I liked the design when I tried it, but it was unbelieveably buggy at launch so I returned it.
I’ve been using a Duo for a couple of months now. I recently contacted support because the 24vac transformer option does not work on mine. I installed mine on an old house that never had a doorbell, So I ordered a 24v transformer and hardwired it. The camera has run off battery power only and doesn’t recharge, I got the strangest response from customer support when I contacted them about this issue.
Below are the Descriptive Alerts on the Doorbell. Does Nest offer this type of notification yet? I am asking honestly. Not in a “gotcha”/sarcastic type of way. I’m dumb to Nest.
Edit: I did go look at the Nest Doorbell website. Seems they have People, Pets, Package, Vehicle, and Familiar Faces. Nothing Descriptive that I could find.
Not that descriptive, but it is almost perfect at identifying who it is that is walking up. John is at the front door, mom is at the front door. Etc.
It will say, a package has been delivered/removed.
Ring is the only other player in this space that I’m aware of, FWIW.
I agree that it should be working with the transformer as you described, and the response seems to demonstrate a lack of understanding about the product. Even if you have an existing chime, what ships with Duo Cam Doorbell for dealing with a home’s built-in chime is a jumper wire that’s used to bypass the chime.
If you want a built-in chime to actuate with a Duo Cam Doorbell button press, then they want you to get the Chime Controller and install that in the box.
If you’re sure that the transformer’s power output is adequate (the specs you listed make it seem so) and that the connections to the doorbell are solid, then I’d wonder about two things:
