This is my second cam - the original I had died but the point is. I had motion detection event recording only.
This one seems to only do live stream. I’m unable to figure out how to disable live stream and only do the motion detection 12 second event recording.

As far as I know (or understand your question), there is no way to disable live stream, but the only time it streams is if you go to the camera page itself on your phone. The 12 second recordings on the events page are totally separate from live watching the camera. If that odes not answer your question, please explain what you mean.
K6CCC, you were absolutely right. I had never just looked at my camera in the app before. I started receiving my notifications as normal and all is well. Thank you for your response.
