Blame Siri. She has a horrible sense of direction but a wicked sense of humor.

Online map directions are a very plausible theory, especially when people have missed a turn.
Although No Outlet is a LOT less clear and foreboding than "Dead End*.
That presumes people actually read signs.

Nav system says something like ‘right turn in .1 miles’ and they think ‘right turn, NOW’

Or a sign “Crashy into Guardrail Ahead 1/2 mile” :laugh:
