Is there anyway I can use automation to turn on continuous recording during business hours, and turn off afterward so I can get longer video retention using the current 128gb MicroSD instead of replacing them with larger capacity??
I don’t really need footage outside of business hours for these cameras.
Mostly Wyze Cam V4 and a few Pan Cam v3.
You’d have to use the “turn on the camera” and “turn off the camera” actions. If you want to view the camera outside of those hours, you’d need to turn it on then back off manually, and it would record during that time, but should still accomplish what you’re looking for.
But do you not want to catch anyone potentially breaking in during off hours?
There isn’t any way to automate the switch from continuous to event only.
A 128G card should get you 10+ days of video on continuous.
Also, to piggyback on the great points Dave27 listed, if you lose internet connectivity I would think you would want Continuous Recording SD card video.
Yesterday Comcast/Xfinity was doing equipment upgrades in my neighborhood. My wife and I were away from our home so I could not check cameras and no Cloud video was uploaded during the periods of no internet.
When the internet was restored, I could then view Continuous Recording SD card video that kept recording during the internet outages.
Along those lines, worth noting that automations won’t trigger if you have no internet, so if it is down in the morning it would not turn the cams back on. Though granted that’s hopefully a rare occurrence.
