Considering dropping Cam Plus Unlimited for Cam Plus Lite

I read that Cam Plus Lite was discontinued unless you already have it, is that true?

I have both on my account but never used the lite version.

If I drop unlimited and switch my V1, 2, & 3’s what do I lose compared to unlimited. I know AI isn’t included but what exactly does lite give you?

That is my understanding per the Help Center.

This comparison page is still out there and has a table:

I’ve never used the service (didn’t get my first Wyze Cam until 2023), so I’ll leave it to others with direct experience to provide more detail.

If I remember, there was some sort of opt-in step involved. Not sure if you can still get in, but it’s worth a try.

I recall there’s person detection but it won’t detect the other AI objects.

And of course, there’s the 5-minute server cooldown.

Cam Plus Lite gives you Person notification, but you are still limited to the 5 minute cooldown for cloud recording / notification.

You will have 12 second cloud recordings.

You lose “Smart Detection Events” for recording preferences meaning you can’t only record Person / Pet / Vehicle. It will record all motion based on your detection zone and sensitivity.

Depending on how you set up your detection zone, detection sensitivity and camera POV, you may miss a potential number of person notification events. For example, car lights shining on the wall & ground or leaves blowing may trigger an cloud event / notification and then there’s a 5 minute cooldown. During that 5 minute cooldown period, a person appears and you will not get a notification until the cooldown is over, but that person may have already left.

True. Nobody new can sign up for it, but people who already have it are allowed to keep it.
I believe the rationale for this is as follows: People who signed up years ago were promised 12 second cloud events, so they can continue to keep this. New customers were never promised this, and so the offer is no longer valid to new accounts since it’s deprecated.

  • You will get a 12 second cloud event instead of all motion.
  • You will get a 5 minute cooldown on cloud events and notification but no limit on SD card events.
  • You will get person detection, but no other AI detections.

I believe at one point you could Not move cameras from Cam Plus to Lite. Maybe the thing to do is drop your Unlimited subscription so you can move cameras to Lite and see how your v1, v2 and v3 cameras work for you on Lite.

Wyze will always want you back as an Unlimited subscriber in the future if you desire.

If you have a CamPlus subscription, you cannot move your cameras to Lite. Even if you cancel, you’ll need to wait until the subscription expires since all you are really doing is cancelling the renewal.

I had Unlimited and found I really didn’t get much benefit from it. Now I have Lite with SD cards in all my cameras. I get 12 second videos with the 5 minute cool-down but that meets my needs. If I need more, I view recordings on the SD cards. I get person notifications via the app and via Alexa for all my cameras. More than enough for me.

Don’t cancel Lite or you will NEVER get it back. You can, I believe, still set the monthly price to $0 so it won’t cost you anything to keep.

Everyone, when you are in the App - Accounts - Services, be careful where you click. At least in App version 2.50 you can see below “Manage camera” is very close to “cancel subscription”.

It won’t let you cancel on the app. It will have a pop up with the following:

Web plans can’t be managed in the Wyze app. Please visit the Wyze website to manage your subscription.

However, I don’t recommend you to test this as this may always change in the future.

Good to know. I can be a little more at ease in the App. Thanks.

Well with the 5 minutes cool-down it’s probably not worth it to switch  just yet…

Maybe after a few more V3’s die off

You don’t get the 5 min cool down on the sd cards, do you?

The 5 min cool down is just for cloud recordings. SD cards record either continuously or for events. Event recordings on the cards continue for the duration of movement. I have mine set for continuous since event detection can be unreliable.
