I have two wyze cam pan 3s. I only turn them on when I leave my apartment, and use the android app to turn off and on with. My internet provider sent me an email saying general work will be done in my are, and the internet will be off on Friday between 2-5pm. After the internet came back online my phone, alexa, and roku tvs all could not connect to the internet. It kept saying wrong passwords.
I reset my modem and after it still said wrong password. logged into my modem/router and it still had my networks saved with the right password. I called my cable company and he tried a full restart command from their office. After it came back on it still said wrong password. However after he put me on hold to check with someone… the phone suddenly connected along with just about everything else. We figured it was working now, and he said it looked good on their end.
Yesterday I went somewhere so I left my apartment, and in the hallway opened the app on my phone to turn on the cameras. One worked and one didn’t. Later when I came home the apps were saying “person detected” which was me. I went into the app and the app would not load the cameras. So I could not shut off the cameras, and had to unplug them. I know long before if they lost internet they would go back to basic and act as new cameras with “Ready to connect.” But now that is not happening.
I figure I will have to reset them, but its strange. For the last year I had power and or internet outages and they came right back on. Now after this I can not control them from the app, but yet the cameras have to be working to send me notices that a person is detected.
Anyone have any ideas? Android app is fine viewing my parents house shared cameras, but not mine.
Unplugging the cams won’t put them in “ready to connect mode”, you have to push the button or do a factory reset for that.
I wonder if they updated your modem/router firmware to match whatever changes they did in the area. See if your router now has WPA3 or WPA2/3 set on it. If so change it back to WPA2, at least on the 2.4ghz network where the cameras are.
It is also possible the firmware just made some slight change to the way the network is advertised and you’ll need to push the button and re-join them - sort of like on a laptop or phone when you do “forget network” and re-add it. The fact that your phone and other devices had the same issue points to something having changed in your router.
I tried a few things with my cams to get them working. My modem does have the WPA3 as a option, but not selected. I did a quick search on google about the settings Wyze needs. It said that AES security is not supported. I set my security to another and when I hit save changes, it went back to AES.
I saw my networks on my hitron modem had the same name, so I tried to mark it as a 2.4 network, and again after saving changes it went back to just the name I had already. I have band steering shut off as I think that helps it with 2.4 devices connect easier. But one thing I noticed, when I shut off my wifi on my phone… the wyze cams in app connected right to the wyze cam app. I turned my wifi back on and the app no longer connected to them. For some reason my samsung S25+ can not tell see two networks, it only sees one.
Then it seems the phone app locked up. I thought it was me till I looked and more then me are not showing cams working.
No they definitely need AES, that’s just AI search telling you garbage.
If shutting wifi off on your phone works, it seems like it is something between your phone and the cams. Perhaps your router blocks something between the 2.4 and 5ghz networks (your phone is probably on 5).
Not sure why that would have changed after maintenance, but maybe they pushed out a buggy firmware to your modem/router.
I talked to my internet “Midco” and with my modem/router they can see the cameras working on the router. But for some reason they do not load the cameras in the app on that internet. I also loaded the app on an older iphone xr and its app also wouldn’t load the cameras on the app while on wifi. It has to be on Wyze new app end. So I am going to have to give it a few days to see if the cameras do work with the app after a bit. All my other 2.4 devices work still. I can still control my fans, and my air purifier through the phone apps.
Only thing I learned is that Midco now has taken total control of the internet. I can not make any changes in the controls for my hitron modem/router. They say I can make a few minor ones in the “Midco Internet app”. I am considering getting an EERO router as I have worked with them before at my parents house. If I use it and put my modem/router into bridge mode maybe I can control more of the networks.
Ok this is strange. On the app in my Samsung s25+ I was not able to do many settings. One of the things I tried to do was attempt to update the cams firmware. But both said I was up to date. Tonight I couldn’t sleep so I was on an old iPhone I had to try the app one more time. And while it was connected to my internet, the app said my cameras needed a firmware update. And it let me do it on both cameras. Kind of surprised me as both phones would not let me do anything while it was connected to my wifi.
But after the firmware updates on the cams, I closed out that app. Then I went to my Samsung and opened the app. And suddenly both cams would work showing live feeds while on wifi. I am going to wait to see if it stays working for a few days.
New app and firmware came out for the Panv3 earlier this week, they often do a gradual rollout so maybe it wasn’t available before. But with this cam in particular the recent firmware and app somewhat go together, s it is possible if you had an older firmware with the newer app that was causing some issue with “local” live streaming.
