Found it. I changed the SSID and password to match my in-house wifi, both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz. I think I’m ready to hook everything back up and see what happens. Thanks again.
If you get it all up and running you can check for firmware updates on the Ubiquiti too but may not be worth it, if it’s working, probably fine. Might get a bit better performance out of the link, or it may do nothing.
Should be able to update the shop one first via the wireless link, then update the house one second. Both should be reachable from any device in your house.
Depends if you subscribe to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset or not.
Also, just curious, with the trendnet offline, were your outside cams still working? Would confirm they are operating off the house wifi (which is almost certain, but never know).
Wow. Who knew that after making the SSID/password changes and hitting APPLY, you weren’t done? I sure didn’t. I kept changing the SSID/password and APPLYing, but when I took it to the shop, it didn’t work and the Trendnet SSID/password info was still there. I finally saw something that said to hit Reboot or Restart after the changes were done. There wasn’t a Reboot or Restart. I figured SAVE (with a picture of a disk) meant to save the settings to my hard drive. I tried it anyway and it worked. The Trendnet names are gone from my phone’s list. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Still gone. I will take it back out the shop tomorrow and see what happens.
Good question. In addition to the 2 cameras I have inside the shop, I have one mounted to the front of the shop facing the house. And I have one about 40 feet behind the back of the shop facing the shop. The one behind the shop has been rock solid the whole time, with or without any comm stuff plugged in inside the shop. The one on the front of the shop starting acting up about 2 weeks ago and has been offline for the last week. I do not believe the problem is related to what I’m working on. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and no change. Once I get the wifi inside the shop working, I will take a serious look at it and maybe swap out the cable, then the power supply, and then another camera to see if that fixes it.
Yeah that’s not too uncommon on networking gear, apply means make it work “for now” so you can confirm it is all good, and if something breaks you just reboot it. Then save makes it permanent. Can be handy but also confusing.
Interesting that one that far away from the house is connecting ok, especially if the shop is in the path. But with a decent ISP router (they aren’t great but have gotten better) and not much neighboring wifi it probably gets enough for the minimal bandwidth needed.
I’d agree that the one on the shop itself most likely is not related to all this, if the one behind the shop is getting signal from the house, that one should be easily.
One problem at a time.
