Cam pan V4 shorted out in waterproof connector

On December 28, 2025 I installed a new cam pan V4 at my mom’s house in Oregon. I installed it on the peak of the eve of the roof I ran the cable into the attic vent. I ran the wiring so the was a U shaped bend in the wire before the waterproof shielding. So if there was any water to run off the camera and down the wire it would drip off before the connection.

Some time in February I noticed no feed from the camera. I live in Alaska so I couldn’t go check it out right away. I got a chance to stop by for a few days. When I checked it out I noticed it was burnt where the cable connects to the pigtail in the waterproof shielding. It was plugged all the way in and even had a hard time pulling the two pieces apart. I have 3 other pan cams and have had no issues with them. Yes I used the cable and cube that came with the camera. Has this happened to anyone else?

I’m hoping nothing fried on the camera and it was just at that connection. I don’t have time to deal with a warranty on it as I am flying out tomorrow and it’s not that expensive anyway. So I’m going to cut it off of the plug and strip the wires and connect it to another cable then silicone up the connection.

Just curious if this is a common thing or not. I’ll update if my fix works or not.

Update: It work like a charm. I do not recommend doing it as it most likely void any warranty from Wyze. Every situation is different, even though it worked for me it may not work for you. But for me 2 wires + solder + heat shrink tubes + electrical tape + 100% silicone = Win.

With mine I’ve tried to make sure that connection comes after the drip loop, otherwise water always runs along it. I also put a bit of dielectric silicone grease inside that boot and then wrapped the whole thing with electrical tape. That has worked out well so far for several years on a few models of cam.

You can request a warranty replacement anyway, they usually don’t want the original cam back (keep the connector in case they do), at least you can then swap it out sometime later.
