Oh, okay. Thank you for the additional information. That’s probably similar to what I see sometimes with Bulb Cam when I’m trying to resolve a problem with linked Accessory Bulbs or make other changes in Settings ➜ Bulb Settings. It acts like if the connection to the Cam glitches then other things within the settings part of the user interface don’t work and won’t “stick”, and that’s frustrating.
What I usually do in that case is try to restart the Cam from within the app ( Settings ➜ Restart). If the Cam doesn’t respond to that, then I will typically try clearing caches and may even power cycle the Cam, but I usually try to avoid power-cycling if I can because I don’t like cutting power with the Cam doing continuous microSD recording. That hasn’t caused me any serious problems so far, but I always think there’s a possibility of corrupting the microSD card or causing other glitches to the file system when doing a hard power cut without first safely ejecting the card or putting the Cam into its own “off” mode first.
This is how I tend to clear my Wyze app caches on Android (click/tap to expand):
- Clear the in-app cache: From the Wyze app’s home screen, navigate to Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Cache File Size ➜ Clear.
- Swipe the Wyze app out of the running Android apps.
- Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (on the phone’s home screen or wherever you tap to initially open the app) and then tap App info in the pop-up menu.
- Tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm) and then tap Storage & cache.
- Tap Clear cache on the Storage screen.
- Back up one screen (back to App info) and then tap Open to re-launch the Wyze app.
Note: I don’t know what the options would be for modifying these steps on iOS since I don’t use that platform. If using iOS/iPadOS, you should be able to clear the in-app cache with Step 1, and that may help.
Sometimes I stop at just clearing the in-app cache, and often that’s sufficient, but occasionally I’ll clear the OS-level app cache, too.
If that doesn’t resolve it and allow you to set a Detection Zone, then I’d wonder if your Bulb Cam’s location has spotty Wi-Fi availability. That was an off-and-on struggle for me with the Bulb Cam at the front of my garage until I put a range extender in the garage, and that has seemed to help.
If your firmware is totally current (I’m still using 21.1.6.1117 but see 21.1.6.1161 offered), then I wonder if the firmware is part of the problem.
I see that you added this while I was replying:
That’s so goofy. On my phone—again, with the older firmware as noted and using Android app v3.19.0.935—I have Enable Hardware Decoder (enabled), and I’m able to make and save changes to Detection Zone as expected. I’m not convinced that the hardware decoder option itself is the problem or solution, but if that seems to be working for you, though, then go with it!
