Mom bluebird has been busy making a nest. It is complete. Now a sparrow is going in the house adding to the nest. So I put the sparrow trap in the house. The nest is too tall for the trap to set. So I put the sparrow spooker up. Sparrow went right in. I didn’t want to put it up before the first egg but I ran out of ideas. Apparently this sparrow doesn’t care about the spooker. Guess I could always remove the nest, install the trap, catch the intruder, and start over with an empty box..
Ok I have had it with the sparrows. There is a fully formed nest in the house and a sparrow keeps coming in and adding its messy nest on top. Bluebird had been investigating but not going back in. The sparrow spooker isn’t supposed to be mounted until right after the first egg is laid. I mounted it because I am running out of options. The dang sparrow flew right in to the bluebird house even with the spooker up. I removed the sparrow spooker and the nest and installed the VanErt sparrow trap. Now the sparrow doesn’t use the perch to get out. It sits on the base of the trap.
I plan to put the nest back in.

The intruder is too light to spring the trap.
The sparrow sprang the trap about 7:30 this morning. I didn’t wake up until 8:00
I put the nest back in so hopefully mom will fix it up.

Wonder if that beam from the sun through the entrance hole would cause the egg to heat up.
The entrance hole is supposed to be pointed due south. It is actually pointed southeast. The house has been proven many times so ‘if it ain’t broke…’
The light is just showing Mom the next place for a new egg.

She quit at 5. Now we wait for an egg to crack.
She has been sitting on the eggs on and off today. The ambient temperature was about 85 today so the eggs probably didn’t need more heat.
Would like to band the chicks before they fledge to see if they return to the house. Doing that isn’t possible.
Five is still a crowd inside the house, not a lot of wing flapping room.

The chicks are about to hatch. Mom isn’t sitting on the eggs much but she has been looking out for a while. My guess is the eggs dont need any more heat (it’s 87F here today) but why she stays in the entrance is beyond me. The male’s job is to guard the nest.
