Bluebirds 2025

Now everybody settle in

Does she move the eggs around often or just until she get them in the position she wants?

If they sit in one spot too long I guess the insides settle? They are rotated quite often.

All the eggs are shiny which is a good sign. Dull egg means it isn’t going to hatch.

I’ve seen a dead chick removed from the nest by either mom or dad.

One brood all 5 chicks were almost ready to fledge, but at the end there was a dead bluebird still in the nest.

If there are 6 eggs, that is a lot of feeding.

A Mom’s work is never done.

Dad brings mom a dried mealworm.

Live mealworms are in the basement fridge. Keeping them cold keeps them dormant. I will put about 20 in the feeder per day once the chicks are hatched.

I’ve never seen them eat the shell before.

Plenty of calcium for strong bones

Nature is cool. The chick’s poop comes out in little baggies that mom takes out of the house. Far away so the scent doesn’t attract predators. Still have two eggs to go, It isn’t good that the chicks hatch far apart. The older chicks, being bigger and stronger, tend to get more food. Mom looks down their throat to see if the need feeding. Guess you can’t trust an open beak,

MrsG and I like the blue Don King hairdo on the chicks.

Here is dad feeding mom so she doesn’t have to get off the nest

Mealworm runs for Dad.

Indy, why does the floor move?

I added some live mealworms to the feeder this morning. The chicks digest them easier than the dried variety.
