Bluebirds 2025

I can’t grasp how to modify the partition so it exposes the least of the camera but gives a full view. I gave made 4 partitions and drilled numerous holes and finally gave up for the night. I have plenty of material but not enough patience. It’s like trying to ride your bicycle with your arms crossed, (don’t try it…you will fall off). Where I think the hole should be is opposite. I hope to have it right by tomorrow. Mom’s got some eggs to deposit and she put that stuff in the birdhouse to reserve it.

She left her jacket on the theatre seat while she went to grab some ?

Momma has been busy this morning. I got frustrated fixing the partition because left is up and right is down and I can’t get it so I put the old one back for now. Going to leave it alone now there is a nest inside. Don’t want to stress momma.

It looks fine to me.

@antonius would disagree. :grin:

I won’t disagree today. Tell Mom :bird: to finish the floor then do her magic custom fitting.

Well those dirty birds aren’t getting their deposit back!

Momma has been busy this morning.

Too late in the day to lay an egg. She usually does that between 8am and 9am.

Poor thing has eggs inside and she still has to make the nest and feed them

Any guesses as to what time tomorrow morning the first egg will be laid?

She hasn’t been back to build the nest for a few hours so I think she is finished with the nest.

If shes done with it, maybe first thing, I wouldnt be surprised she lays one this afternoon.

I noticed that pattern, they finish the nest and then disappear for up to a day or 2, and then suddenly they come back and start laying eggs!

Fortunately the daddy bird often helps a lot with the creation of the nest.

Maybe she’s off storing up energy.

I beg to differ.

Male bluebirds do not build the nest itself, but they do help in the process. Typically, the male selects and defends the nesting site—often showing it off to the female by singing near it or fluttering inside the nest box or cavity to get her attention.

The female bluebird is the one who actually builds the nest, usually out of grasses, pine needles, and other soft materials. The male may occasionally bring a piece of nesting material, but it’s mostly symbolic—he’s not the one doing the real construction.

Once the nest is complete, the female lays the eggs and handles incubation, while the male often helps by bringing food to the female and later to the chicks after they hatch.

Well I stand corrected, I know the robins do it quite equally. The male does a heck of a lot of the building in the Robin world.
Bluebirds males are just a little chauvinistic, I guess :winking_face_with_tongue::joy::grin::rofl:

I always wondered if the eggs were carried right till before being laid without being fertilized, and that happens in the very last hours before the eggs are laid .
I haven’t looked into this and I would imagine that different species of birds have different patterns in this area.
It seemed to me the robins we watched were off having a little honeymoon after the nest was built and before the eggs were laid

The eggs are behind door #1. Dad makes his deposit behind door #2. When the egg is ready to be laid, the male’s contribution gets deposited on the egg and that fertilizes it. The egg is porous. A sign of a healthy egg is that it is shiny.

What cracks me up are hummingbird houses. Hummingbirds are not cavity nesters like bluebirds. Hummingbirds prefer spiderwebs to make their nest. I knock down cobwebs only when it’s not hummingbird season.

They make them because people buy them, not necessarily because they work. Most ads also mention finches and wrens, which are cavity nesters. I’ve seen hummingbird houses that look really cute.

Of course they had to PhotoShop the hummingbirds into the photo.

Hummingbird nests are like robin’s nests. Under the eaves, above a light, in a tree but never in a hole they can’t exit quickly.

Also brightly colored birdhouses for any species is not good. Predators are attracted to the bright colors. The birds you are trying to attract couldn’t care less if the house was emergency orange or dull blue. A natural wood house is best.

What kind of house did you catch Mrs. G with ?

Get ready for a read.

Back in the late ‘70s my buddy told me about a new bar that opened up and there were some good looking women there. We didn’t do our ‘Wild and Crazy Guys’ routine though. We are sitting across from each other, drinking our beers. A really hot blonde comes over to me, gives me a piece of paper and said “I think you’re really cute and I’d like to go out with you tonight, but I am here with a girlfriend and don’t want to dump my friend. Here is my phone number. Call me tomorrow and we’ll get together”. Yeah, right. I was stunned as was my friend. His jaw was almost on the table. I called her the next day and went to her place. Just kinda sat around, so I asked if she wanted to go for a hike. We are up in the hills and the trail ends. She grabs me and kisses me. Shock #2. But it was like kissing my sister (which I never did but there was no exchange of pheromones) . I took her home and left. Nothing bad, just had a long drive in the country.
The annual Christmas party from the IGO (Independent Garage Owners Association) where about 50 shops would come. I asked her to go to this party. She said she already had plans for that night. To make sure I didn’t invite anyone else, she sent her best friend to accompany me. We hit it off that night and got married 11 months later. For about a week, these two women were not friends Then they stopped talking to each other, despite both of them working at the Federal Reserve Bank.

We will have been married 45 years this December.

This affirms the statement ‘life is nothing more than a series of consequences’

If any one of those incidents had not happened we would have never met each other. If my buddy and I went to a different bar, if the girl at the bar had not come over, if she did go to the party with me, all that,

Too deep for this old man to understand.
