If you’re following this thread and saw the notification it’s because the status was just updated.
The status used to be that it was in progress, and now it’s recently been changed to “maybe later.” That means It’s no longer under active development, isn’t on the current road map, and there is no longer any kind of ETA.
Presumably, they took the resources (devs) who would have spent time developing time lapse for this device and put them toward other things that are more popular. It wouldn’t surprise me if they want most of their devs working on things like improving the app which will affect everybody. But I’m just guessing on that. All we know is that time lapse development is no longer on the current road map. They’ve told us in the past that their road map is typically 6 to 12 months out. So don’t expect that this is likely to happen anytime within the next year, if ever.
That’s the status update. Don’t shoot the messenger.
Naw, that didn’t take ANY dev resources. Case swapping is just a PM asking their supplier to use a different material and make a number in bulk so it’s cost affordable. No devs needed.
We’ve been through how many years and app iterations and the back and forth flip flop from LS to H mode is still there on iPad. Wyze is the only app that can’t figure out how to stay oriented to the device. Every other app fixed that mess years ago.
I would also love to see the timelapse function added to the Battery Cam Pro. My outdoor cams are on solar so the battery drain won’t be as much of a problem. We have a construction project underway. For now, I’ll just have to compile the events that are being recorded. I’m not sure how to do that but that’s my only choice at this point.
I need to monitor the back part of the property. Having motion detection isn’t going to work since I want to monitor a wide area. Continuous recording would consume the batteries (it would be solar powered). Timelapse would meet my needs.
Is it possible to use the API to trigger a snapshot remotely?
Seriously though, just bought one to capture a home build and I cannot for the life of me understand why this isn’t already available. If it’s a battery issue, make it an advanced feature. Heck, I would even be okay with it being a firmware that you have to manually download and install on the camera. Just make it possible! With the solar panel, I don’t see how this could be an issue!
Sorry Wyze. That time-lapse feature was very valuable for me on the older Outdoor cams. Losing it on the newer Cam Pro is a deal breaker. Now researching suitable subs as my older cameras fade away.
I don’t have any plans to get a Battery Cam Pro, but I’m voting for this anyway, because this seems like it should be the ideal camera for a lot of remote (away from AC power and Wi-Fi) applications.
Agreed. I actually use a timelapse with my WCO cameras a lot more often than I do my wired cameras. I can mount them in a particular spot for a project I’m working on and start the time lapse and then just run it for a few hours while I am doing some kind of home improvement project. Then when I am done for the day, I take it in and charge it and then bring it back to start the next time I start working on it again. I’ve done this several times. It works great. I can put it anywhere and get a GOOD view of whatever I’m working on without having to run long extension cords, etc for some dumb wired camera. Then when I am done, I just stitch together all the timelapse videos from the different days.
I am really disappointed they didn’t make that possible with this model camera, or with my FLPros that can see EVERYTHING so well. I would totally use my BCPros to record close up views of particular projects, and FLPros to see an overview of large changes over time. I’m really disappointed the 2 main cameras that I wish had Time Lapse feature, don’t have it.
Yeah, I didn’t know that about Cam Floodlight Pro until you mentioned it, either, and that provides even better perspective on what you wrote elsewhere:
I agree with that, too.
For a perpetually-powered camera—like, say, maybe a camera with…oh, I dunno…an integrated floodlight that’s physically wired into a junction box for constant power or something—being able to record and…
…makes complete sense. I’ve personally used Wyze Cams outdoors to capture snowfall events over the course of hours, and I know there are plenty of other potential uses. The absence of this feature on these “Pro” cameras really is baffling. If there’s a Wishlist topic for time lapse on Cam Floodlight Pro, I’d vote for that, too.
