Bait & Switch? Anyone?

I feel duped, After recommending their products to many people now things barely function bacause they want to force you into signing up for Cam+! The first event of the day on my IOS device NEVER plays be it sound or motion & when I try the many years late web page to view there is ZERO audio! Useless! Anyone else feel this way?

First event of the day (00:21:30) with iOS 18.4.1, iOS app 3.4.5 (9) on a iPhone SE2020 and 4th Gen iPad Pro
V4 camera.

As an early adopter of Wyze back when they had a different business plan which Was Not Subscription Based I get your feelings of be duped …

Originally the cameras were not hobbled if you did not subscribe, but that all changed around the V3 release.
As did them not being just a security camera company as they decided to sell “smart” junk too…

I would be okay with Cam Plus if everything reliably worked but that didn’t happen, updates bring issues most of the time as the pre-release testing in non-existent.

I stopped buying Wyze-Crap at the V3 and still have 20+ in use but as they fail they are being replaced with a better security camera.

All the ones that failed are due to water getting in the lens on a camera made for outside use. Wyze knows of the issue but will not fix as it meets the warranty 90% of time and fails just outside of the warranty period.

For a cheap DISPOSABLE camera I guess there are good, but I would rather have a camera that lasts FAR beyond the warranty, and isn’t plagued by broken updates and issues.

The cameras I bought to replace them have better optics and weatherproofing. The warranty is 2.5 years but with the build quality I doubt I will need it

In the 2+ years using these cameras there has only been one update to the smartphone app, and none to the firmware. The cameras work flawlessly…

I bought my first Wyze camera (Cam v3) in January 2022. This was the same time Wyze introduced Cam Plus Lite. I am now grandfathered in to Cam Plus Lite and it works fine as I use Wyze cameras as a security hobby.

Feeling duped or bait and switched might depend on when you got in to the Wyze eco-system. Heck, I am still using App version 2.50, so Wyze works for me pretty much like it did in 2022.

Version 2.50.7 here too…
No longer doing updates to cam or app

The “first event of the day” thing I’ve seen mentioned with certain IOS devices, doesn’t seem to be all of them. That’s something you should report to support along with submitting a log so they can have as much info as they can get to try and find the common denominator.

Besides that, I started using the cams in 2023, after Cam Plus Lite shut down to new subscribers. I do not pay for anything, I just use SD cards, and my cams have served my purposes very well. I definitely do not feel like I was mislead or duped, It was clear to me what the limitations would be without a subscription, I seem to recall a table showing the differences of with/without a subscription.

Feeling duped?

That doesn’t seem fair. I’ve used these cameras and everything else since 2018 and all these pain points were communicated as it unrolled.

They didn’t surprise us or pull the rug out from anything. Their business changed so they had to change. And they told us about it… They even let us name it own price for CamPlus Lite.

Did some details get left out or did some wires get crossed in communication… Probably.

Did they try to intentionally mislead people to take advantage of them? I.e. duped… Not even close.

Business models change. You either change with it or get left behind.

Go back and read all their notes they shared when they first started taking about the subscription model. They fought about it internally. But had to give in because of the market… And COVID.

People really need to stop boiling down the complexities of a multi million dollar business. There is so much involved in decisions. Keeping the customer central is not always possible. Like it or not.

Posting that you don’t have an issue doesn’t help those who do & I’ve already verified it IS an issue for others not just something unique to my setup!

Posting bogus accusations that your cams aren’t working because they’re trying to force you into a subscription also doesn’t help anybody. If that were the case, EVERYONE would have the same issue, so a response showing that is not the case is perfectly valid and warranted.

Just because it doesn’t work on your end doesn’t mean Wyze is bait & switching you. It only means that it doesn’t work on yours. And as a proof Antonius says it works on his cameras. I suppose he doesn’t have Cam Plus, either.

I have been happy without a subscription since 2019 or earlier. Opinions can vary.
