You’re right about everything other than the need to “setup” the camera again. You won’t need to add the cam to the app again after downgrading the firmware. Everything else you mentioned is spot on though. It’s sad to hear people are having issues with freshly released firmware. I thought WYZE was past these types of issues, but apparently not. I do feel blessed that the firmware wasn’t pushed out to me.

If you want to step through flashing, here are the instructions:

Wyze Cam v3

To firmware flash your Wyze Cam v3:

  1. Insert your microSD card into the computer and ensure it does not have any other files on it.
  2. Download the desired version of firmware from the Release Notes & Firmware page.
  3. Unzip/open the .zip file.
  4. Ensure the unzipped folder is named “demo_wcv3.bin”.
    • If not, rename it.
  5. Drag the file to the root directory of the microSD card and then remove the card from the computer.
  6. Power off the camera by unplugging it from the wall.
  7. Insert the microSD card into Wyze Cam v3, then press and hold the setup button on the camera while plugging the camera back into the wall. Be sure to keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds before releasing it.
    • The camera will automatically begin the firmware flash process. This may take up to 5 minutes to complete.
    • The status light will appear solid purple as both the red and blue lights will be on at the same time.
  8. Once the flash is complete, the status light will become solid blue and the camera will reboot itself.
    • If the camera was already set up in the Wyze app, it should automatically reconnect.
    • If the camera was not set up in the Wyze app, walk through setting it up like new.
  9. Remove the microSD card from the camera before continuing use.
    • If the card remains inserted, the camera will attempt to firmware flash every time it reboots.
  10. To continue using the microSD card, reinsert it into the computer and remove the “demo_wcv3.bin” file before reinserting it into the camera.

I’m not being argumentative. I am just curious for some detail. If step 9 is true then why do you have to hold the setup button while plugging the power in for 3 to 6 seconds if it will just continue to try to update just by rebooting if the card is left in? Why not just put the SD card in and turn it on?

You’ll have to ask WYZE that question, they wrote the documentation.

In my personal experience, step 9 is not true as I have manually flashed dozens of times. With that said, what I typically do after flashing the firmware is leave the SD card in place and format the card using the WYZE app. That gets rid of the firmware file and ensure that the file system on the SD card is just the way the camera wants it.

I am the one who puts them on the release notes page when I am given the copy of the firmware to post. Some models manual updates are not an option, so obviously they never get links. Gradual releases don’t get links until they are released 100%, and when we do a security update, we remove old firmware from the page.

Thank you for your reply kind Sir. Why are you not given a copy of the file immediately upon the release of the firmware like it used to be from 2018 through the end of 2025? Why has the process changed?

If you remove old firmware when doing a security update, then why are there still so many previous versions available for download? Clearly security related updates came out well after several of the firmware versions available for download. I am not trying to shoot the messenger, but am trying to understand why things have changed. WYZE is the only company I know of that selects when they want to make their firmware available for download (on models that allow manually flashing).

Also, are we to believe that firmware version 4.36.16.7064 is still not fully released or is not published because 4.26.17.10 has security improvements? As stated there are several firmware versions available for download that had security improvements/updates released afterward. Something seems amiss.

Great update (HEAVY SARCASM HERE), which now appears to ignore push notification settings for promotional products.

Wyze has been on a wild streak of customer alienation this year.

My motivations for promotional products are set to off; and I double checked with ChatGPT that I shouldn’t have gotten the push notification I received today. Here is the response:

“The Wyze notification at 3:15 — “One little cam, dozens of jobs / Meet Wyze Indoor Cam Pan…” — is unmistakably a product advertisement, not a camera/device alert. And your Wyze screen clearly shows Push Notifications → Promotional → News & Updates OFF. Wyze’s own documentation describes push notifications as including both device alerts and promotional notifications, and that promotional setting is intended to control the latter.”

I already ditched my Wyze cameras earlier this year when they bricked the SD card writing without subscription. Guess I’ll have to replace the last two Wyze products I hadn’t yet gotten around to: just two plugs.

The releases have been paused, a new version will be released soon. It should go to beta later this week.

Although I have no problem with not bricking my cams :slightly_smiling_face:.

It is interesting that on my account, I had one v3 update to the current .17 version.
It had auto update turned on.
I set it up here with a hotspot programed to look like my Son’s network at his house.

He pluged it up and away we went.
But it has updated.
Didn’t want auto update turned on, but the act of un-mothballing these and updating them turned on the auto update without my permission, and now it is updated, again with a buggy (it appears) fw.

Can we stop turning on auto update on peoples cameras without their permission please?

You know a lot of software releases include the update history, and even known bugs in the new software, giving customers the informed knowlage of accepting new bugs while fixing others, and choosing to possibly wait on the next update should those known bugs affect their use case.

“Bug fixes” is a real problem.
What “bug fixes”?
Can we just come clean with what the bug fixes are in the release notes?
I realize a security fix for a security issue that is not publicly known could be a path for bad guys to exploit current weeknesses, but sheeze.

This is not true when the auto update is turned on by another update.
I didn’t even know autoupdate existed til fairly recently.
I certianly didn’t turn them on on every camera I have.
But I did go in and turn them all off one at a time.

My auto update turned itself on for all 8 of my cams too. Really frustrating that you guys have your software doing this. Thanks

When is the fix available? Can I get notification about release availability? My 5 Cam Pan V3s are now offline without knowing when the fix is available. How come does it happen? Why is the release is published without thorough testing? How can I install the bug fix since I cannot even connect the camera to the network? :distorted_face:
