without a subscription is there a way to use the cameras to get motion notifications?

I have an ‘away’ and a ‘home’ automation set up so that when I leave the house it goes on and when I get home it goes off, but it never seems to notify me of anything regardless and usually when I go to check the camera isnt live, once I open the app it takes a second before it goes to the live feed, as though before opening the app it was off, did I do something wrong? the app has access to my location so it should be able to know when im home or away.. is this something that doesnt work without the subscription perhaps?

any insight at all would be great

the away is set to: turn on the camera, turn on motion detection, turn on notifications

the home is set to: turn off the camera, turn off motion detection, turn off notifications

I also tried a automation if camera detects motion, turn on notifications, but no luck with that either

All of my cameras are attached to a subscription. With no subscription, you MIGHT be able to go in to your camera’s Settings -Notifications - Manage Events and see if you can check the box that says Other Motion.

Any Motion your camera detects might send you a notification.

There is no subscription required to get notifications. The limitation is you can only get one motion alert per 5 minutes and one sound alert per 5 minutes (they’re limited separately, so in theory you could have 2 alerts per 5 minutes).

If you aren’t getting alerts it could be an issue with permissions for the app. Are you seeing “events” logged in the app?

The live feed does not run all the time, so taking a second to load when you open the app is normal.

Keep an eye on the location based automations (like being home or away) as I found it really drains your battery, but that may depend on the phone and OS.
